A Conversation for Sherlock Holmes Part I - the Character
Influence of Sherlockisms on the English language
sprout Started conversation May 4, 2004
A few sayings or pseudo-sayings have come into the English language from the stories:
"Elementary, my Dear Watson" (not actually in the books, but never mind)
"The dog that didn't bark" (less common to be fair, to note the importance of something not happening)
and, of course "No sh*t, Sherlock" to express an opinion that what was said before was blindingly obvious.
Maybe there are others?
