Hello there, and welcome to h2g2! I'm fords, one of the Assistant Community Editors (ACE) and I'm your offical welcomer.

Now, there are many weird and wonderful things to see and do on h2g2, but instead of bombarding you with information I have compiled a useful guide at A811874 which will help you to get acquainted with the site, make your Personal Space all pretty and introduce you to the wonderful world of the h2g2 smiley and GuideML - the Guide's very own markup language which comes in very useful for writing Guide entries and creating a great Personal Space

Well thank you all so much for all of your kind messages! It's all still a bit confusing for me this morning (first day on the job panic and all that kind of stuff!) but I'm sure everything will make sense very soon!

How's it going so far then, Paul?

Well everyone's being very kind. I'm spending this afternoon having a go at writing my first entry, so I'll not count any bridges before they're hatched at the moment!

The idea is that it's better for me to write an entry and see how it progresses through Peer Review etc. before I begin to help the other italics out with Editorial matters. Seems a very sensible policy to me!

Well I hope your entry isn't totally mauled to pieces in Peer Review, and if I get it in my sub-editing batch I promise I'll be kind to it

I just hope that people treat my first entry exactly the same way as they do everyone else's - that way, I can learn the house style, house rules and house 'mentality' as quickly as possible.

Please sub-away to your heart's content though! I won't cry too much if people are brutal to me...
