THOUGHT PROVOKING

Good Evening All

I thought that it might be a good idea to have a space for our thoughts - you know, those emails or articles you come across which you want to share with your friends.

They can be spiritual or just enough to make us think of each other, rather than ourselves.

I received one today from my parents - they are the fount of all knowledge and often send me through emails to keep me on the right path!

Wishing to encourage her young son's progress on the
piano, a mother took her boy to a Paderewski concert.
After they were seated, the mother spotted an old
friend in the audience and walked down the aisle to
greet her.

Seizing the opportunity to explore the wonders of the
concert hall, the little boy rose and eventually
explored his way through a door marked "NO
ADMITTANCE."

When the house lights dimmed and the concert was about
to begin, the mother returned to her seat and
discovered that the child was missing.

Suddenly, the curtains parted and spotlights focused
on the impressive Steinway on stage. In horror, the
mother saw her little boy sitting at the keyboard,
innocently picking out "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star."

At that moment, the great piano master made his
entrance, quickly moved to the piano, and whispered in
the boy's ear, "Don't quit. Keep playing."
Then leaning over, Paderewski reached down with his
left hand and began filling in a bass part. Soon his
right arm reached around to the other side of the
child, and he added a running obligatio.

Together, the old master and the young novice
transformed what could have been a frightening
situation into a wonderfully creative experience.
The audience was so mesmerized that they couldn't
recall what else the great master played. Only the
classic "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star."

Perhaps that's the way it is with God. What we can
accomplish on our own is hardly noteworthy. We try our
best, but the results aren't always gracefully flowing
music. However, with the hand of the Master, our
life's work can truly be beautiful.

Next time you set out to accomplish great feats,
listen carefully. You may hear the voice of the
Master, whispering in your ear, "Don't quit.
Keep playing."

May you feel His arms around you and know that His
hands are there helping you turn your feeble attempts
into true masterpieces.

Remember, God doesn't seem to call the equipped;
rather, He equips the 'called.'

Life is more accurately measured by the lives you
touch than by the things you acquire.

So touch someone, and pass this little message
along

May God bless You and be with you always

What does it mean to be a friend?
A helping hand to the journeys end.
A loyal heart and a loving one too.
No task is too great for a friend to do.

Thank you smiley - rose, my learned Ruth. Quite humbling that one.

I have thousands in my pc, especially helping the local incumbants for several years. Worry about copywrite smiley - sadface although I would love to share them in a place like this where everyone could find something that maybe helps. Can I put a link to your lovely new forum in Comfort Corner? Then folk can use the link to come here and read these special verses and add to them. What do you think, is that a smiley - smiley or smiley - sadface idea?

One of my favourites is by Nelson Mandela, starting with 'Our biggest fear....' Do you know it? I have lots of prayers and reflections that help with bereavement. I want to be a bereavement councillor - one day, when I am less raw. Everyone said to wait for a couple of years but it's been nearly 5 and I'm not ready yet. When the kids are a bit older I hope to train as a Lay Visitor, too.

Hi Corrie

go ahead and put a link to it - and we can all use it for our musings! As often times it's not just bible verses or other 'religious' stuff which can hit a spot, but poems and other thoughts.

Not too sure about copyright - but I'm sure if you put 'daffodils' into google you'd come up with the whole poem - so if you find a poem then give us the poet as well - I think that would work. I notice in The Archers Village Hall they have a cookery book (for slimmers) and have put whole recipes from cookery books in there. I'm sure the mods will let us know (nicely) if we shouldn't be doing it! smiley - biggrin

I remember when my husband's father died (very unexpectedely 3 weeks before we got married) and my man's world just fell apart. It took him so long to be able to laugh again, and the whole grieving process took 8 years! Everyone deals with it differently and the help and support of other people is just so important, even when they don't realise they are helping! I think that you are being very brave considering being a counsellor, and I am sure that you will know when you are ready to do it. Maybe do it the other way around, and become a Lay Person first.

So here is a smiley - hug for you, my cyber pal smiley - kiss

Our deepest fear
is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that
we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness,
that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves,
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small
doesn’t serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened
about shrinking
so that other people
won’t feel insecure around you.
We are born
to manifest the glory of God
that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us;
it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously
give other people
permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our fear,
our presence
automatically liberates others.

Nelson Mandela

I play small and I shouldn't - none of us should! This is quoted everywhere and I'm sure if NM is the guy I feel he is, he will be honoured to share our space. God bless him.

Wow!

I've put that into my palm computer - so that I can look at it and be reminded of why we are here!

Thank you.
