My dad's dad died last night, peacefully, after one night in hospital. My dad was happened to be visiting him at the time, and was in hospital with him. Pa, as we for some reason always called him (his great-grandchildren also called him Pa), was very nearly ninety.

Sorry to hear about your grandfather, Trig 
I remember when my last grandparent (mum's father) died: my mum's sister grabbed mum by the shoulder and cried "We're orphans!"

My dad's now an orphan, along with his brother and sister. My aunt had been helping Pa a lot for years now, and she's very glad my dad was visiting at the time.
