Gnomon - time to move on Posted Feb 4, 2004
Loke, everybody thinks the place they live is awful. Many researchers write entries about how awful their home town is, but they are very rarely accepted into the Guide. We don't want to now about the awful places, we want to know about the places that are worth visiting.
Since Niceville has such an unusual name, could you perhaps explain where it got it? Is there anything good or interesting to say about the town? What's the weather like? Do you get hurricanes? Has anyone famous ever come from Niceville? Is there a beach? What are the houses made from? Stone, brick, block, mud, timber frame, etc?

*Agrees with Gnomon*
There must be more to it than that... Where is it exactly? How big is it? Does anybody famous come from Niceville? etc, etc

Hi Loke - I agree with the others! But I have what's hopefully some helpful advice... we in the h2g2 Royal Geographical Entry Society are more than keen to encourage entries about places, and a good one on Niceville would make a fantastic addition to the Edited Guide. So we've collected together some suggestions good ways to write entries of this kind, and hopefully it'll give you a few pointers.
Might I point you in the direction of our Map Room, at A1286921?
Cheers,
Number Six

Yes, but none of the chaps on the sight have got mullets?
Seriously, having had a look at the site, there seems to be more going on than in my home town, and I managed to get an EG entry in on that...

Loke
I do not totally agree with the other posts, not every place is great but even if you are to keep the darker tone of the entry there are some things that will need changed. First you should check out the Writing-Guidelines at A53209. Basically what you need to gather from there is: write in third person, and being a little more balanced.
You could use a little more information, but I think this entry could be worked into something you like and make it into the EG. Include at least something "good". In my entry of my home town I wrote that it was a good place to do nothing. Meaning to me that it can be a boring place but maybe some traveler wants to go somewhere and do nothing. Also, if you just can't think of any balanced way to cover your home town cuz you just don't like it, then write up some of the place you like to go to get away from Niceville
Below is a version I edited of your entry, that I think fits your view of the town but is something with a better chance of making it into the EG.
Let me know your thoughts.

Many travelers who make it to Niceville,Florida may have the same literal thoughts as others before them "Is it 'nice' there?" or "I bet you have a 'nice' time there." If you ever visit Niceville, and some locals suggest you don't, there is one thing you should know about the people.
Contrary to the name of their town citizens of Niceville, are rude...at best. For example, when the founder and owner of WalMart, Sam Walton, came to Niceville, the people were so rude and mean to him that he vowed that the only time he would ever put a WalMart in Niceville, would be if he had built one in every other city in the USA. So a K-Mart exist instead.
As for anything 'nice' to do, you will be extremely disappointed. There are only three things to do around there: go see a movie at the double cinema; sit around at K-Mart and wish for a WalMart; or leave the city, if you have failed to follow the previous advice of not entering in the first place
In conclusion, travelers who have experienced this area of space would not wish such 'niceness' on their enemies mothers.

Interested by the title Agree with most of the comments above.
This could possibly be expanded by comparison with 'Pleasantville' - how the fictional small town compares to a similarly named real place.

I don't think this should still be in Peer Review. The author hasn't posted since Feb 4 (almost 2 months ago) and it's not really suitable for the guide in it's current form anyway.
