Hi Comfortably Numb - I remember liking the first entry on Varanasi you submitted to PeerReview and this is one is good too. By writing an entry like this, you're doing exactly the kind of thing that our founder envisaged (see A559055 for details). And just by having written it, it's part of the Guide and will be found by anyone searching for 'Varanasi'.

However, you've submitted it to PeerReview which is the mechanism to get entries into the Edited part of the Guide, and be published on the Front Page. This means it'll have to meet the Writing-Guidelines for Edited Entries, and as the entry stands at the moment, there are certain things that will have to be changed for it to get in. Have a read of the Writing-Guidelines and you'll hopefully see what I mean.

Once you've read the Guidelines, come back and let us know if you'd still like us to help you try and get the entry into the Edited Guide.

The first thing you'll need to change is to remove all the first-person references, i.e. whenever you say 'I' - the Edited Guide is written in the third person so that it can always be altered or added to by someone else at a later date if necessary.

The other ideal first step, as Cyzaki says, is to put some paragraph breaks in, which will make it a lot easier to read.

Once you've made those two changes, post to this thread again and we'll start looking at the entry in earnest. The main thing, if you're keen on making the Edited Guide, is to keep coming back to this Peer Review thread, and let us know whenever you've made changes so we can give you feedback on them - the entry submitted last time got a little feedback (you can read it here - F128028?thread=287228) but then no further progress was made and the process never really got going.

Well, I hope all that has helped a little to explain how this thing works - finally, the h2g2 Geographical Entry Society has compiled a page of advice for people wanting to get 'geographical' entries into the Edited Guide, and that's in the Map Room at A1286921. Hopefully that will be of some use as well...

All the best,
Number Six

Huge apologies! I just re-read the entry and there are *no* first-person references whatsoever... smiley - sorry

But the other point I made is quite fundamental - as it's one huge block of text at the moment, it does make it kind of difficult to read it. If you could break it up into paragraphs and sections, that would make it far more easily digestible, and help a great deal.

Hopefully the Map Room will give you an idea of the kind of thing I mean - there's also the Links Page at A1286921 from where you can find many examples of other entries about places that have got into the Edited Guide.

Do people think this thread should amble over to the Flea Market, or back to the entry?
