A Conversation for Talking Point: How Did You Spend Christmas?

I seem to be spending Christmas blowing my nose, croaking irritably and refusing to get out of the armchair infront of the fire and biting anyone who tries to steal my blanket. Yes, I have a cold. I have so much cold it is more like the cold has me. My poor Mum has full-blown flu and is in bed with a temperature. I have been banished back to London so as not to pass cold on to Rowan, my tiny weeny baby niece, who is spending Christmas having colic and driving her parents up the wall. Left-overs don't taste of much at the best of times, but now I couldn't taste a vindaloo, let alone turkey sarnies. And because I have concrete sinuses and sore eyes, I can't even crack on with the nice pile of lovely books my kind and thoughtful realtives so sweetly gave me. Am spending days shouting at the radio instead.

Yours bored out of whatever overfed and over-alchoholled fragments of mind she had left

Goodness, that was last year's Christmas. Strange time-warp moment. I don't think any of us were expecting this lot to be dug back out along with the fairy lights.

Katbaloo, thankyou for the tea and sympathy - I never refuse tea and sympathy - and I do hope you get very well indeed very soon and can meet your new grandaughter ASAP.

This Christmas I was forced to play a nasty swan in the fiance's family traditional panto and spent rest of time nursing self-esteem back out of gutter.
