at my high school, kids are generally classified as bieng in one group or another. examples:
preps/preppies: kids with too much money who wear all designer clothes like "gap" or "abercrombie" and consider themselves to be the best although they aren't.
jocks: guys who play sports to the extent that they are obsessed. often, they are large and muscular, and are the flirting targets of preppie girls (don't ask me why).
computer nerds: people who spend their lives on the computer.
hoochies: girls who wear revealing, "slutty" clothes and have really bad taste in music (by my standards).
sluts: girs who wear really revealing clothing and/or sleep around. (sleep around=have sex with lots of different people)
hicks: kids who wear carharts and talk about their trucks constantly.
goths: kids who wear all black and are depressed much of the time.
punks/freaks: kids who don't fit into any other category. often, they have hair dyed cool colors, and they are all individual, thus, hard to classify. i am of this group. smiley - smiley

also, i have noticed that in new england states, the term "flatlander" is used. basically, it means that someone is not a native of that state. in some cases, someone may be called a flatlander even if they had been born there, if their family hasn't lived there for a certain number of generations. i think the term flatlander is kind of ironic, because in maine, one might call a vermonter a flatlander, although maine is a flat land when compared to vermont.

This is the class system of Mt Si High...

Preppies: Self-absorbed people who wear mostly Abercrombie, Gap, Banana Republic, and spend all their time talking about what went on on Dawson's Creek last night. They never swear and always look perfect. NOTE: Many preppie girls. Few preppie boys.

Skater Trash/Punk Trash: People with spiky/gelled hair, clothes from Mr. Rags or Zumiez, and skateboards. They talk about "HOW F***IN COOL WAS DAT CONCERT OR WHAT MAN?" and such. There are tons of skatertrash guys but not a lot of girls, and they all swear like drunken, injured sailors. I'm an honorary member of this clique.

Twonks/Bubbas: The dorks that wear Caterpillar hats and flannel and are going to be truck drivers when they grow up. We've got them...no kidding..

Jocks: Sports nuts, muscleheads, always guys. Every school has 'em.

Sluts: Girls who wear very little clothing and try to have sex with the guys.

Male sluts are called players.

Nerds: The people who are intelligent if a little geeky and spend their time on the computer or playing RPG's. I'm a member of this group too =0

Tha Homies: A group of preppies and skater trash and other girls .. divided into subsects.

Preppie Homies: What is sounds like. The most popular of homies.

Nonchalant Homies: We're really sarcastic. This is my group..we're not popular, or perfect .. but we're sarcastic. Oh, yes.

Sports Homies: The sort of jocks of the homie world.

That's about it.. +)

Soitenly! (that's from the Three Stooges btw =))

A homie used to be an inner-city term for your friends in a gang (short for homeboy/homegirl), but it kind of evolved into a term for your friends, specifically a big gang of 'em ... see the connection? *grinz* So, one's homies is another way to say one's really good friends. And, in this case, it's just a specific group of girls that stole the phrase "the Homies" as the name for our particular clique =) I hope that clears things up.
