Oddly enough, an early Henson show, called "Sam and Friends", which featured a very early Kermit and Ralph, in addition to others that we have not seen since, was a "black humor" show. It had no problems with "sick" sight gags and really bad puns.
The fact that it was 15 minutes and it ran locally in Washington, D.C., might have something to do with what the youthful Jim was doing.
He never had any problem dealing with or making fun of the insane need his characters had for having a hand shoved in a normally inappropriate place.
Now, the prospect of affected children dealing with that is twuly fwightening.
