Jerms - a Brief flicker and then gone again. Started conversation Aug 30, 2004
I had a fantastic weekend... my Russian (as in "It's MY Ireland!") flew up to visit me and our other friend Jo; He arrived friday midday, and by friday night we were all laughing our @$$es off, getting ready for the vampire ball, drinking a little, watching his Tenacious D. and Family Guy season two DVDs, and did I mention laughing our @$$es off?
The ball itself was pretty good, although as I already knew the organisers were wombles so it could have been MUCH better, so I'm not convinced it was worth the ticket price, but screw it it was still fun.
Jo got tired and bored, so Ilya and I walked her back to my place to pick up her stuff and her car, and then we drank a little more and wandered back into town again to catch the afterparty. However the 'Dark Rave' event wasn't, so we only ended up staying for about half an hour before going back to my place again.
Spent the first part of Saturday copying stuff from my hard drive to Ilya's; hopefully he now has almost 200gig of stuff he wants. More drinking, more music, people came over, enjoying my subs (just plugged them in on thursday. Don't think my neighbours like me any more. ), made plans for the evening, had dinner at Jo's, more drinking, ended up walking into town from Jo's place because she didn't want to take the car and we couldn't all fit in a taxi unless it was a van, and the ony vans available had a one-hour waiting time , Damn you Hamilton!
Not enough bass in the music, although gorgeous blue-dress lady was very distracting. Aparrantly she was distracting enough that I didn't notice white-top guy checking out Ilya's @ss.
Club closed, went home. Got about three hours sleep, and then carried on copying data for Ilya. Jo came over again, took us to the airport and said goodbye. Fake moustache made an entrance. And an exit.
I'm looking forward to the random photos... some of them will be very... interesting.

well it all sounds very interesting, and like you had lots of fun. i'm glad for you
it also seems like the kind of weekend i'm never likely to have. mostly jsut because i dont drink. in a lot of ways i feel that i may be missing out. but thats ok because in the end i'm doing what i want to do... who wants a hangover? and besides i like the taste of coke better
and i dont play my music as loud as i'd like anymore. i live in a neighbourhood with a lot of retired people. the last time i played any music loudly was i think when i was in grade 6. it was something like the top hits of the 60's (which was more or less the kind of music i was into then) and someone complained to my parents, who had been out, that it sounded as if i was haveing a wild party. and so i got in trouble. and since then i dont play my music very loud. but sometimes i would really like to. loud enough to cover that annoying boys music. he plays rap very loudly outside while he plays roller hockey in the middle of the road. and i hate rap quite a lot. which makes me want to go down to my room in the garage open the windows, and the garage door and crank up the Bauhaus, jsut because i know he wouldnt like it. but i dont. whoever complained last time would probably complain agian. i wonder why no one complains about him? maybe they do and hes just stupid about it.....
i liked the mention of the moustache
well i'm off to bed now
night jerms
have a good day

Grrrr. Bet thats irritating. I live in the middle of no-where so I don't have that problem. My biggest problem is that I have a bunk bed that refuses to stop squeaking! Grrrr. Sleepless nights.

"...seems like the kind of weekend I'm never likely to have." Rubbish! 99.9% of the fun I had that weekend was because of the company I had. Admittedly it involved an expensive return plane ticket, but it was worth it. We would have had /almost/ as much fun as if we weren't drinking; on friday Ilya and I drank half a bottle of Tia Maria each and we weren't really drunk, just had a caffeine rush (Tia Maria is a coffee liqueur... we served it with coke.) On Saturday we drank Aftershock, Melon Schnapps and Canterbury cream. I still have most of it in my fridge because we couldn't be bothered pouring a third shot (each) -Too much effort, and we couldn't be bothered drinking anyway; we were already having heaps of fun.
So the alcohol didn't really contribute to our overall enjoyment of the weekend. Besides, Jo wasn't drinking for most of the weekend and she had almost as much fun as we did (I say almost because she's in the nuisance habit of waking up at 5am so she kept getting tired about 3am... slacker! )
As for the music... meh. I try not to annoy my neighbours. They haven't said anything yet so it probably wasn't too bad for them. The fact that there are concrete partitions between our flats helps; and I spent a few hours packing the air boxes of my subs with egg cartons, so the sound only comes out the front, too.
Grr rap Grr
Anybody who plays /any/ kind of music I don't like out of their cars is very very annoying. I was most impressed when I first moved to Wellington; the first evening I was there a boyracer went past playing music at full volume... but it was Mr Bungle, so that was okay. Certainly so much better than here in Hamilton, where Metallica or Eminem is the norm.
Have you guys tried padding the squeaky bits in your beds? It really helps.

well now that was very nice of you!

well here the only thing anyone plays loudly out of their window is rap. i've never heard anything else. metallica would be a blessing, a wonderful break from it all.
and i cant pad my bed because i think its the metal that squeeks... right where its all screwed together. but it was a very goo idea.
have you ever noticed that no matter where you go theres never quite anywere like your own bed? i discovered that after being gone for 2 weeks. i didnt even realize how much i'd missed it.

Yep metal like a big metal thing. I have the padding problem as well. I tried putting rubber washers in between which helps for a bit but they come loose and also the supports underneath creak which is the majority of the problem. However, I have a door to put in between the supports and the matress. Next problem is to sort out the moon shining through the curtains and I have 2 lots of curtains. My first day at school for this year today and I didnt get a wink of sleep last night. I hate insomnia but I'm not going to loose any sleep over it lol. Grrrr. Wheres Mr. Bush with his mass explosives when you need them? and after being gone for 4 days I really missed the back seat of my mums car to sleep in.
Yey Mettalica! although you must get sick of it if it's fairly constant. Still it;s better than Dance I guess.

hmm...
i've got a sleep and a lighting problem. i'm never tired at night, never. i just stare at the ceiling. and because my bunk bed is up high no matter where i put it i still get light shining through the window into my eyes. if it was just the moon i'd be fine. but my neighbours accross the street, the ones who have the son that plays the rap, always leave the lights at the end of the driveway on. and my house is right beside a street light...
i've never heard of rubber washers... interesting. do you find that the door helps? is it at all more comfirtable?

Lord Job Boron. That's Lord Job Boron To You! Posted Sep 4, 2004
Haven't tried it yet. I can't actually get the door into my room it's that messy. If you put you're bed up against a corner of the room and find a thick black or purple (or something like depending on your taste in colour) piece of cloth large enough to go around your bed and use curtain rails or drawing pins to stick it around the bed, it should stop the majority of light coming in. or you could hang it over the window like a second curtain.
I find it hard to go to sleep in beggining of the night. I usually lie awake til what i estimate as 1 or two in the morning, tossing and turning, thus makin my bed squeak which keeps me awake. If I can get my room tidied then I can experiment with different anti squeak methods. i think I might go and do that now in fact.

well that sounds interesting. and black is a wonderful color!
well i hope you do go and clean your room... if you find a method that works let me know

I never actually got round to tidying. My friends are very nice and gave me a video recorder.
Which I then went and plugged in in my room.
So I just watched films.
I would've been better off tidying, they were rubbish!

Arisztid Lugosi Posted Sep 5, 2004
oh well. thats alright... sooner or later you'll get around to it
what films were they? i'd like to be able of avoid them if they were rubbish...

Well to be honest it was just the one. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. From the title and the box blurb you'd think it would have some sort of religious (christian) and witchcraft morals and ethics in it. And apart from two scenes of voodoo it has nothing to do with witchcraft of any kind.
I installed the door today. Will keep you informed of squeak but from the initial tests it doesnt seem too bad. Difficult to install though, sort of a 3 person job. One to hold up the matress, one too push the door and one to direct it. And also you're likely to get your hands trapped but on the upside it's better than having a big plank of wood with splinters in it.

mm.. i'll remember not to see that one.
i cant remember... did i tell you that i'm going to watch up town girls?
let me know if the door is effective...
i was thinking of making a curtain and roof and using my bunk bed like a normal bed wiht a canopy... but then i decided that i like sleeping up high far too much for that... and i saw something on trading spaces that gave me a good idea, its where you suspend the canapoy form the ceilling... but because i sleep on the top bunk i think my head is too close to the ceilling for that.....

Lord Job Boron. That's Lord Job Boron To You! Posted Sep 6, 2004
The door was most effective. I in my state of infinite sanity (or finite Insanity) have composed the three types of non- dirty bed noises from bunk beds:
1. The Rolling over Squeak- Only caused when you roll over.
2. The up and down Squeak- Caused when you move up and down.
3. The side to side Squeak- Caused when you move (not roll) one way or the other.
The door is most useful in preventing 1. as it is the support bars which causes this squeak. The door stops this. I would give it 8.5/10.
For the other two tightening joints is useful. However this is only a temporary solution and must be repeated every month/ 2 months or so. But live for the moment eh?

Arisztid Lugosi Posted Sep 7, 2004
yeah. sounds good to me.
what about sound no.4 where it squeeks when you shift your feet, or when you breath too heavily?
Russian around...
Lord Job Boron. That's Lord Job Boron To You! Posted Sep 8, 2004
Oh yeah never thought of that one. I think the door solves that one unless your joints are really loose in which case they need tightening. You can judge how loose they are by rolling over and seeing how long the bed shakes for afterwards.
The trouble with my joints is that theyre all worn down so i cant get an allan key in there. Grrr.
Hey I could do this professionally. Bunk Bed Tester. lol.

Do the joints stick up enough to grip them with pliers? May work better than an allen key...
