I have to admit that I watch the WWF on the box when I get the chance.
I think its harmless escapeism, possibly even soapesque when you consider the story lines involved. Yes its fixed but who cares? Its good entertainment, however the people I work with think they are all large homosexuals groping each others bits in the showers, which they think is a bit amusing. Firstly there is obviously nothing wrong with different sexual preferences, and I think camp is being used in the 'it aint half hot mum' sense of the word. (70's TV comedy program for those not from england or who are too young to remember!!!)
Its something which shouldn't be taken to seriously although i think there are certain sections of american society which probably do take it to seriously. So come on guys and girls is it harmless fun or is it up for ridicule???

It's fun AND open to ridicule! For years I scoffed, until a friend got me watching. Yes, it's rigged. Maybe some of them are homosexual, though I don't see the relevance of sexual preference to this discussion. Yes, it's one big soap opera.

But...where else can you watch people who make damn good money scoff at their bosses, commit acts of mayhem, and walk off as heroes? Triple H married the big bosses' daughter, and was on the top of the world for a while, but now he's scrabbling with the rest of the talent for a title shot. The Rock is the People's Champion, but he has a whole pack of rabid genetic mutants who would love to "bring it" to him in front of a national TV audience. And Commissioner Nick Foley, most recently incarnated as Mankind (Have a nice day!) takes great joy in stirring the pot and making matches that no one expects.

This is entertainment on a cosmic scale!

It's ridiculous, it's over the top, and I love it! No one claims it is high art, or "real" wrestling. It is entertainment, pure and simple, and it makes people happy to watch it. What more can you ask for?

I couldnt agree more it shouldnt be taken seriously even the guys themselves call it sports entertainment and thats the bottom line hahaha

To take the serious side - watching wrestling has a heavy influence on children. I am at the moment struggling against the tide of anti-social behaviour from children-who are not equiped yet to decide between 'harmless fun' and 'entertainment'. The fervour with which they hurt each other (not realising that people in real life do feel pain) in re-enactments of the dross they watch is beyond me. Come back football - all is forgiven....
It really does worry me that young children watch this, and have no guidence as to the content of 'comedy' violence; the language used and it's inherent bigotry.

Well there are some serious issues raised here, however Its Unforgiven tonight and its a rather exciting storyline, certainly better than the sodding Ethel euthansia story!! Come on Id rather watch The Rock kicking ass!! Well to our gay friends who have joined in on the conversation I will have to get you to swap your numbers haha!! But on a more serious note, the wrestling is on at a later time so the later shows are meant for a slightly older audience, I also think though if children do watch the program then surely its up to the parents to explain these sort of things. However we are becoming more and more americanised and the doctrine of homogenisation is soon upon us, I say there is nothing wrong in watching some harmeless fun however the day i say "Have A Nice Day!" is the day i embrace the apocalypse!
