I'm from East Yorkshire. An ex-girlfriend of mine from Leicester once accused me of "having a cob on". I was a little mystified, having never heard the phrase before - I thought she was suggesting I was... how shall we say this... aroused.
Apparently it meant I was grumpy.

It did make us laugh a couple of times, yes. I did walk in once with a bread roll -a crusty cob - on my head - though I resisted the temptation to stuff it down the front of my trousers!

Yeah, heard that one regularly - my mother was from E yorks, she used it a lot. In south yorks it becomes "having a face on". No idea where either come from

In Lancs we used to say we wetre cobbing meaning sweating!

Only time I ever heard "Got a cob on" was from a Londoner, so that one's obviously travelled a bit.
