... might be a damn site easier if I had any control over it!

Less than two months after breaking up with Chris, I was informed at work this morning that, as of Monday I will be based in another department. I've never even met the person that I will be reporting to and I'm less than impressed about the way this has been handledsmiley - sadface.

My current boss has known for a while that this was going to happen, but had not told me partly because she has been trying very hard to prevent her only administrator from being moved elsewhere but also because she knows the situation with my personal life and, like me, knows that the timing of this really stinks.

Current Mrs Boss is meeting with future Miss Boss this afternoon to try and iron out how I will continue to do my current job in addition to my new role, whilst working in a completely different part of the building. I hope to have an opportunity to chat to Miss Boss myself before Monday morning - if only to find out where my new office will be.

Today is the 50th birthday of my favourite work colleague, but no one is feeling much like celebrating. All my colleagues are complaining about my being moved, and as I write this one chap is meeting with a manager who is two levels above Mrs Boss to express his disapproval of the 'changes', but I doubt whether it will do him any good.

From the point of view of my 'career' (if you can call it that) this move is not necessarily a bad thing. However, as one of my colleagues has just said to me 'socially, it's terrible'.

Rains - Wondering where time's going and why it's in so much of a hurry!

What a pain smiley - sadface. I'm really sorry to hear this, especially as it seems utterly mismanaged smiley - erm. Nice of them to give you plenty of notice, I must say. Hope you can track down your new boss, if only to find out who she is! Are you going to have two jobs to do, now?

That said, it's nice to know Mrs Boss tried to hang on to you and none of your colleagues want you to go!

<> I couldn't help laughing at this, even though I know it's serious - it almost gives the impression that your new department is a bunch of Neanderthals you wouldn't want to be seen with!

Hope something gets resolved on this, anyway.

Take care,

Lins

<> - no, that’s just the students!smiley - laugh

FE is the last place I wanted to go – I’ve been trying to tunnel into HE (where they have grown up students) for about two years, so I’m not too chuffed at being shunted in the opposite directionsmiley - sadface. The thing I’m least chuffed about, (quite apart from not even knowing where my new office is or who my new colleagues will be) is being removed from a very nice team, who I think of as friends rather than colleagues.

oh dear. smiley - steam
It's a bit shit that they didn't consult with you at all. I must admit that I'd be cheesed off about that. However, despite the irritations, at least you'll have a bit of a change and a challenge. It's small consolation but it might eventually broaden your prospects. Hope the neanderthals don't get you down too much. Hang on to your smiley - towel and complain about being treated like a piece of furniture.

Well, this morning I have been to meet new Miss Boss and her immediate supervisor. Both are very nice I now have a much better idea of what I will be doing and whysmiley - ok. Pity current Mrs Boss is not as good at explaining thingssmiley - erm. I also met some of the team that I will be working with and they all seem very nice toosmiley - smiley.

My 'new' team have been wanting to speak to me for some time but were blocked by current Mrs Boss and they, like me, were only told yesterday about my move.

So, on Monday I will go over to my 'new' office for some induction, but I wont be moving there permanently for a while yet as they don't actually have a computer for me to work on (as you can tell, this has been Meticulously planned - NOT!) so until that is sorted out, I get to stay where I am. Also, new team are quite amenable to the idea of me working in my current office for part of my working week. So, at the moment it is looking as though I will be part of two different teams, which in some ways is nice although it may not work out in practice, we shall just have to wait and see.

In conclusion I would say that it is good news on all fronts. New team look like being very supportive and I get to keep links with old team. Also, I get a bit longer to get used to the idea of the forthcoming changes while I wait for a new PC to arrive in my 'new' office. And, I still get to come back to my other office and play with the top-of-the-range PC that I only took possession of about a month ago.

I'm still not very impressed with the way that this has been handled, but then neither is anyone else by the looks of it. However, I am feeling much better about things than I was 24 hours ago.smiley - smiley

So far, it's all been an anti-climax - my induction yesterday took all of ten minutes!

I spent most of this morning in the FE Enrolments section and my head is still spinning nowsmiley - laugh By the time I actually move over and start work I will have forgotten all the stuff I have been shown this weeksmiley - erm

don't fret - I never really learn anything from inductions - actually doing the work is the best way to learn. Nod and smile - it'll all be ok! smiley - cheerup

Apparently, more changes are afoot in the FE department as of Monday. Most people affected should have been told today, but as I am on annual leave today and Monday, I got told yesterday. The impact on me is that I might have to take on more of my new workload sooner than expected.

A computer is sat on my new desk; a really rubbish cheap one - not a patch on the fantastic piece of kit I have in my other office and indeed, by the looks of it I'd say it's significantly inferior to the one I've got at home. I await with interest to see what sort of software it has on itsmiley - erm. I shall be moving across to my new office when I return to work on Tuesday.
