UK Counties & Regions - England - West Sussex

Just as picturesque and attractive as its Eastern neighbour, West Sussex boasts castles aplenty (such as Arundel), attractive seaside resorts like Worthing and Bognor Regis, and a seemingly endless number of quaint country lines and small towns. If you live in West Sussex or if you know the area well, why not share some of your favourite sights, facts and figures about this pretty county. smiley - smiley

Spelling mistake: you've got an 'r' that shouldn't be there in the second to last word of your posting, Paully.

Ah yes. The boundary between Hove and Brighton - and West Sussex and East Sussex - is of course Dyke Road, over which residents of both towns and counties have been sneering at each other since time immemorial. My Grandma lived on Dyke Road for the last few years of her life, but on the East side, so *that* was all right smiley - ok

Number Six, I'm pretty sure that you're wrong about Dyke Road being the boundary between East and West Sussex.

I'm not certain about the period from the 1880s up until 1974 when Sussex was one county with two administrative sections - East and West. But looking at the map, it looks like Hove falls into the East camp. As for post 1974, you're definitely wrong. When the two counties were formally created as separate administrative entities, Hove was in the East.

I'm delighted to announce that we already have two County entries in Peer Review, waiting to receive any bouquets or brickbats that people might lob in their general direction! If you're currently either working on or contributing to a County entry of your own right now, you might like to have a quick look to see how some other researchers have tackled this challenge. They are: County Fermanagh (A6092606) and Norfolk (A6108473).

Hope you enjoy reading them! smiley - smiley

Any takers for this one?

We still need a few more county entries to finish off this project. We've got prizes! T-shirts mainly, but always nice to get a parcel through the letter box. Or left outside on the step in the rain...
