I wish I knew. Our local MP Mike Hancock has stated that the demolition of the ill-fated Tricorn should take place in the spring of 2004. A clip from his website:-

"Following the meeting of Portsmouth City Council on 22 July 2003, the city is jointly funding the demolition of the Tricorn with Newtrico. The work is expected to go out to tender in ???"

The demolition of the Tricorn can't happen soon enough in my opinion. The building is a monolithic eyesore that has been inflicted on the City of Portsmouth for too long. It might be possible to forgive the ugliness of the building if it actually worked and fulfilled the needs of a shopping centre\wholesale market. The flats that formed part of the structure were deemed unfit for human habitation by 1970 because they failed to keep out the elements and they suffered from severe condensation. The sooner we can cut out this cancerous building from our city the better. I'm sure between now and the time of demolition there will be lots of people who praise its originality and its radicalism. But I'm sure those same people wouldn't vote with their cheque books and build something similiar near to where they live and love.

please please please will some one tell me when we will be rid of this dirty ugly building? it is now boarded up and totally derelict and looks very bad to visiters of portsmouth as it is one of the first things they see when driving into portsmouth. the tricorn should have been pulled down years ago, instead it has been left to rot. all it is good for now is a home for pigeons and a place for people decided to commit suicide! BULL DOSE THE TRICORN NOW!!!
