"Why is it ok to be anti-globalisation, anti-US, an environmentalist, a climate change opponent, to be anti-vivisection and anti- just about anything and have your views accepted as valid opinions but if someone opposes a backward, ossified cult that represses women and provides the justification for mass murder, you're a Nazi?"

Catching up on this thread but just on this point SWL, as I have explained before, the reason this throws up suspicion of motives is that the Nazis in Britain have a deliberate and official policy of using Islam as a proxy for race to get around laws.

It certainly does not make someone a facist, but where those views seem to focus more in islam than other religons it can be an indicator that is where ones sympathies lie.

This is not to say it applies universally, and many opponants of islam do so for the same reason they oppose other abrahamic religons. Namely that they are backward, repressive desert nomadic death cults.

I see your point Blicky. I think the difference would be that (in your example) humans couldn't provide the same service as the wheel chair but (in my example) they probably could provide the same service as the guide dog. It's a tricky subject and my intention was to highlight that it is tricky. What may seem like discrimination can sometimes be fair on everyone. Diversity & equality is the preferred nomenclature and it makes sense; rather than making allowances for individual needs, policies encompass all needs and treat them equally. On occassions, what helps me will hinder someone else (and vice versa) so it becomes a question of balancing the help and the hindrance. I'm not saying this balance has been achieved but it's worth working towards. smiley - ok

>> letting in a 'damn dirty dog' <<

I admit there is a 'cultural' aspect to this.
Animals often aren't given the respect they deserve!

But you wouldn't let stray dogs into a public place, would you.
What about rabies?

Dogs can be dirty, also, if they're not looked after properly.
They're not like cats who wash regularly, dogs often roll in poo.
They are no longer allowed in childrens play areas, either, as I'm sure you're aware of.
