Is anybody fed up with the Pomposity of the Premier League
TROPPOMAN Started conversation Jul 2, 2007
Hi, simple as that really.
As it says on the tin.
I know some people will probably say "Its bloody football, stick it on a 606 forum, but they tend to be full of football obsesives, who only have a moan about the EPL because their teams not actually in it. I'd like to here what none football obsesives think. Those been the kind of people who follow a club but can actually laught at the game. And not automatically default to a top club when
Why would I offer this thread?
Probably because of my team recent History.
Full of glorious ingominity we are know the Laughing Stock of the game. No one actually liked us to start, and when it comes to the ability to completly implode due to the vagaries of football finance we bought the whole farm (and an aquarium as well!) I sure The numbers on the players shirts wre Lot numbers.
Anyway, when you have watched all that happen. You start to think.
Why do we do it? Is thie some thing better in Life and what relevance has the top of the game got with the rest of us? We now Play in Division One (which 20 years ago was the top flight -not the tird level down. )
Actually with the prices they charge these days It a bit Like going to the theatre. Les Miserables springs to mind.
anyway,
Anybody wishing to quote Barnstoneworth United or offering new names for the Carlise goldfish will be more than welcome.

Im guessing you're a Leeds fan
Tough break the lows are lot harder to deal with wne you have had a taste of the dizzy heights. A better perspective might be to think about the teams around the ountry who dream of reaching the standard of national leagues and that only a small number of fans really find Leed's situation funny, I think its heart breaking to see big clubs like Ledds and Nottingham Forest going into freefall. Take hear Albion and even the dirty stinking good for nothing but putting gypsies on to the pitch Wolves made it back into the top flight aftetr going a long way down.
The Premier league isnt pompous its a bloated money vacuum that sucks fans attention nd resources away from grass roots fotball. The standard of the playing on the pitch justifies the hig wages but they are only justified by the fact that greedy executives sold their clubs couls to Murdoch. You get so few matches played on a Saturday not that attendances are falling because people cant get away to midweek fixtures.

So long as people will pay so much to watch it, it'll keep being like it is. I find the messing up the league numbering rather foolish too.
I would mostly rather play football than watch it.

I like the league numbering. We've been relegated twice and we're /still/ in the Number One League in England

I reckon Psycorp603 is either a Forrest Fan or a 'Loiner' juging by that remark.
Anyway, Pehaps we should move the Thread or reword the Subject.
How about...
"Is top filght sport awash with cash only to massage the Over-inflated Egos of Corperate Britain."
If we do this we can have a moan at all sport then!
Comments Please?

With its infalted salaries, fed to inflated egos, and the constant television exposure to allow advertising revenues to pay them, the Premiership has become a private playground of the super-rich - success available to the highest bidder.
Whilst the top of football has always been that way to an extent, it's reached new propotions since the advent of the Dirty Digger.
I've been worked on some predictions for next season (up and down) Premiership took about 1 minute (with most of that being a dither between West Ham and Man City for the final relegation place) - I still haven't worked out a winner for any of the other divisions, never mind a relegation group.
I woudl contend the Premiership is predictable and boring, and the passion and challenge now lies in the next 3 leagues. Look at the Yeovil - Forest play off game - unbelievable. (Capped for me when at the end of the game they zoomed in on a work colleague (tree-hugger) standing clapping his team off - his face was a picture.

It all went downhill and moved away from what it was* actually ment to be (I.E. how well people played football and how well they did it), just about the time when the Premier league came into existance, before which we had div 1, 2, 3, 4, etc., And it was more about a game called 'football' than it was about who has the best looking whife, the biggest car and the least ability to string more than two words together which make sense without mentioning 'my fantastic children, wh whife, or great work I do for charity....' Isn't football the game they used to play with the round ball and the two goal posts?
Key: Complain about this post
