I must have been one of the lucky ones, as I work for a trading bank just off Wall Street with a full 48 hours worth of generator backup. So while the rest of New York was suffering with the heat and no power I was relaxing in my office with the AC on full blast watching a DVD and drinking ice cold beer!!!
The only down side was that after sleeping the night under my desk the subway still wasn't working 
but after an hours walk over the Brooklyn Bridge back to my apartment it was nice to see the power back on in my neighbourhood.
Also the view of stars and 
from downtown Manhattan is something that will never be witnessed again and i feel luck to have seen them
