Saving My Job!!!
Arisztid Lugosi Started conversation Sep 23, 2006
Wednesday night the place I work is having an openhouse. As soon as we close we’ll be opening again for people to come in for free. All the staff that work that night will be volunteering their time. I’m definately going!!!
Things have been really bad at work almost since we opened. The opening day when there was lots of media attention and admission by donation we had tons of people but other than that its been pretty dead. We’ve only been open for 3 months but we’ve just filed for creditor protection.
This event will be done entirely by the staff. The owners wont be involved, which I think is a good thing! They’re the ones that really screwd this up… I mean who on earth starts a tourist type business and has no marketing plan!!?? Anyway, if the owners agree to this the letter will be put in the paper and hopefully people will see that the staff is dedicated and believes in it and they’ll come check it out.
Here’s hoping this works… I really don’t want to have to try and find a new job. Besides, I really like working there… Despite all the terrible things that have happened (people being fired, people quitting) I wouldn’t want to leave. I love the people that I work with. I’ve got my fingers crossed!!!!
*crosses fingers on both hands, crosses toes, crosses eyes... just goes silly*
PS. It’s so difficult to know when you’re being to specific with these online things. Theres a fine line between giving too much information and not giving enough. Heres hoping I found that line.

Hi, Al,
I think you should be proud you were so circumspect, cagey, in fact but you never know who might be reading your post and putting two and two together.
It does raise the curiosity somewhat though Perhaps when things get better you can safely give us more clues.
I hope things work out for you.

I'm a little bit curious, but a little bit mind-me-own-business too
(I know what you mean, I never know how much specifics to go into).
Hope it all works out If it's a touristy type thing, there must be a market for it, I'd have thought, even if those in charge have mucked up the planning.

Thanks everyone
I want to give you all details!!!!! I would too.... If it wasnt for the stupid rule of not giving people enough information to work out where you live.
I'll try and give you all a little more information in a vague way though
The town that I live in is very touristy, so there really shouldn't be a problem there. The creative director for the place I work decided that we would not have any advertising untill opening day. He wanted a "Wow" effect I think that plan backfired. All the advertising that I've really seen are ads on the side of busses... The trouble is I work at the place and I personally think that the ad's are super misleading and really dont tell anyone what we have!!! It frusterates me.
Tourism was a little slow this summer and so we're not the only ones that suffered, but the owners were expecting an unreal amount of people to come through every day. So when things started not doing as well as they wanted they cut back all the staff's hours. Rumor has it they wanted to fire 1/4 of us but our beloved manager refused to and so they fired him. I think he also dissagreed with their non existant marketing plan. The new management is terrible, they arent friendly and they've very strict. There wasnt really wrong with the way anyone dressed but they sent out dress code pages and pages long that used the word conservative way too many times. It was so strict it even said you cant let the hem of your pants touch the floor
We work in a very old building and apparently a letter writing campain has started by some people who want it to go back to what it once was. That will never happen, the reason it closed was that not enough people were comming in and it wasnt making enough money and the things that they had in it were causing the building to rapidly deteriorate.
Well now.... Theres more details for you I hope they tell you something without telling other people too much
I'm now going downstairs to visit with my anut and cousin who have spent the night

No, but they've gone home now so everything is good.
It was kind of nice to see them... But they only gave a few hours warning before they came and I didnt get anywhere near enough homework done so now I'm really behind in what I need to get done. It means longer hours and even less time than usual to do the things I want to do, like read a book for a little before bed.

Some people are such buffoons aren't they. The business is collapsing and they are telling you how long your trousers should be! If shorter trouser length changed anything we'd all be wearing shorts.
*Looks down at legs bristling with hair*
Wow! I must be successful!

If it'll save my job I'm willing to try anything! I'd even start wearing shorts! ...Even though they have the air conditioning on full blast all the time and the roof windows open. It gets very very cold in the morning, the evenings, and when the sun goes behind a cloud.
Maybe that was their major mistake.... I think most of the people who work there wear pants....
