Four films in two weeks and let down must be on the way.....

Hmmmm thinking aobut this my last four films have been:-
Hot Fuzz, Pan's Labyrinth, The Departed and Stranger than Fiction.
None of which score below 8/10 for me. Meaning the next film I watch is bound to be dissapointing.
Maybe I should just watch a Stephen Seagull double and get the dissapointment out of the way!

How fantastic is Hot Fuzz? I've not enjoyed a film that much since... Well probably since Shaun of the Dead.

Yeah it was brilliant. Had I had my bank card or some more money on me I might well have just gone back in and watched it again!

Might watch "The Host" later, given that it is a bit silly I think it would be a good 'un to choose next

I was supposed to be going to see Outlaw today, but the Mrs is poorly. Damnit.

Well I really fancy seeing "Cronos" and "The Devils Backbone" after watching "Pan's Labyrinth". So that might be the order of the day this weekend.
Trouble is I have a course finishing a week Tuesday and I have a shed load of work to get done so I might just end up grafting this weekend.

I'll try and get round to Pans labyrinth, but I think you should stop sitting on the fence and tell us wether you realy think we should see it or not.
Loved "the Departed" a really goood identity film that sparres no emotions and puls no punches. I thought everyone acted well.
Didnt like Hot Fuzz as much as I thought I would. Its funny, very funny and very clever, but what was the deal with all the close ups and sound effects bits everytime he opened a door or flicked a switch??? As for the crimnal underuse of Bill Baily's talents what a waste.

Shame I thought Hot Fuzz was class... though I agree about the underuse of Bill Bailey who has for me got to be one of the funniest blokes in the ocuntry right now. Every week "Buzzcocks" makes me urinate meself every time it is on and I nearly broke windows laughing at "Part Troll".

Just finished watching The Queen (I've written about it in the WFHYSR thread) I also rented Pan's Labyrinth which I'll be seeing tomorrow.
Anticipating good things....

Have fun!
My film tonight was "Secretary", one of those films I got as the "fifth" DVD in a 5 for £30 deal a while back.
It was very enjoyable.

ah dvd bargain deals.
I like those and many a good bargain has been found that way in the past. That said, there's always the issue of walking out of a shop £30 pounds the poorer - good deals by the bucket load ' it would have cost me a fortune to get these at the regular price ' logic - so worth it definitely but when trying to save money I found that logic ruinous so tend not to let myself get suckered intothinkign like that now and only buy what I want to expend money on.

That is probably the most sensible course.
I tend to occasionally get carried away, particularly just after birthday/xmas when I tend to have vouchers to burn.
The rest of the time I usually rely on magic or t'interweb or go pictures (which rwally is the only way to see really good films I reckon).

discounts on boxsets can be worth it however becuase they cna be so ludicrously straosphericlaly expensive - I don't sniff at major discounts on the matrix / godfather / star wars /back to the future trilogies or even TV deals like stargate if I can get them.

I usually find that form "grey market" import sites like CD-WOW you can get such things pretty cheap. And there is always amazon market place, for 2nd books, CDs and DVDs it beats ebay hands down if you ask me....

I order a lot of soundtracks and scores via the amazon market place.

I think Amazon Market place is spiffy!

It was very good...I didn't get a chance to listen to Del Torro's commentary which usually helps me to access a film to a greater degree.
My honest reaction was that it wasn't as awing as I'd anticipated (possibly the hype effect) oh but it really was very good indeed.
I lost my patience with the girl when she ate the grapes - because she was warned TWICE - maybe that was symbolic for something between the fantasy and the reality - and I'm wondering if there was any part of the documentary that explained it.
In that way I particularly liked the way her fantasy mirrored her reality - for example the mandrake root and the fate of the mother is when I noticed it most strongly so I'm assuming that was not the only time and why I suspect there was more to the point of her eating the berries at the blind creature's table.
I'd want to watch it again to see if I can spot the things I've missed this time around - I thought it was well worth seeing and I'd definately recommend it
4/5
