Friday Song Quiz 7

Another song title quiz this week smiley - smiley

Below you'll find a number of words taken from song titles - all were top 10 singles in the UK. But I've removed a word from each song (the removed words are all different, and do not appear elsewhere in the list).

You need to rearrange this list into six song titles, adding a new word to make each.

Then take the words you've added, and rearrange them to make another song title.

Good luck! smiley - ok

Except on the first of April, Icy. The public is fine with being fooled then, so go for it!

Gnomon - time to move on

OK, here's my guess:

1. Don't STOP Me Now - Queen
2. Dancing With Tears IN My Eyes - Ultravox
3. Living On THE Ceiling
4. Sign Your NAME
5. Death OF a Clown
6. I'd Do Anything For LOVE - Meatloaf

giving:

STOP IN THE NAME OF LOVE - The Supremes

I've heard of number 5 but don't know who sang it. I've never heard of 3 or 4, but I'm guessing them based on them fitting the final answer.

You can call me TC

Well, that was short - well done everyone. smiley - applause

I haven't been able to come on line much lately (visits from grandchildren etc. Since we moved offices at work, I don't have access to h2g2 in my lunch break either) so I missed it. I've heard all of those songs and could sing most of them - particularly "Death of a Clown" by Dave Davies (going solo for that one IIRC). I'm still not sure I could have solved the quiz, though.

Oh. Wait a minute - "Living on the ceiling???". Nope. This must date back to the Dark Years in the late 70s and 80s when my only connection to the outside world was our local German radio station. Very few UK hits made it across here so I missed out on many of them. We had the Neue Deutsche Welle, known to this day as NDW (easier to say in German, pronounced endayvay)

Anyway, well done everyone. Looking forward to the next quiz. If Icy finds time to make one next Friday I may be able to join in as it's Good Friday and I'll be off work.

That may be just as well. I have to work pretty hard to keep abreast of current pop songs, as I spread my music exposure across so many different genres, from the Baroque to contemporary pop.

The reason I like song titles is that it's possible to have a reasonable guess even if you don't know all the songs. I mean, it's not Shakespeare, is it?

I'll try to use as few obscure ones as possible, and the mystery song needs to be well known.
