Thin on story it may be, but it's quite simply the finest piece of animation I have ever seen, and I've seen a lot of animation. And anyway, it's themed, rather than plotted - it's about birth, death and rebirth, as depicted both by the sprite and by the landscape itself. Which is sod all to do with the the ballet, incidentally.
I first saw it in IMAX in the US, and after sitting through all the previous segmnents in a hot cinema full of kids giggling and fidgetting it was nice to see them absolutely SILENCED by it. And I mean SILENCED.....
That's power.....
Using one of my favourite classical pieces didn't harm it either
