A Conversation for Terry Pratchett's Discworld - the Computer Game

Thought I'd just pre-empt this fine entry's appearance on the Front Page by posting a little something to it.
Mentioned above is 'how the broken drum got it's name'. Surely the game's interpretation is a little fanciful. The Broken Drum is, more logically, so-called because "you can't beat it".

Well, yes, but I always read that as a shocking misinterpretation on the part of the game's designers. On the whole, the humour in the game was never anywhere near as subtle as Pratchett's.

Actually it was a joke pub name that Terry first used in 'Strata'.
In which the punchline is quite clearly given as 'you can't beat it'.
Admittedly, the rest of the book is kinda unfunny, but it does include the first appearance of a discworld in Terry's work. Though it is clearly not the same Discworld that we have come to know and love.

Having vikings around was sorta funny...
But he did write Strat when he was 16 or something so we can forgive him!

"Dark Side of The Sun" mentions Klatch, and there's a few other references in there as well.

Admittedly a slightly late posting but i've only just joined. In the colour of magic the broken drum is called the drum. But after the fire it gets renamed the broken drum and it is not til later on that it is called the mended drum

the sarcasm sounds like the hitchhiker's game, but hey, the comments spices up my life!!
Terry's funny... the first Discworld one I read reminded me of Piers Anthony's books
