h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I can't believe its nearly been a month and I've heard nothing from the guy I was going out with for five years. How can anyone just be cut off like that even if we are in different counties. Looking back I can think of nothing but bad things but I miss the friendship and the closeness and just keep asking myself why, what happened. Where did things go wrong? I've lost faith in the fairy tale 'happily ever after' that just happens to everyone else. I think I'll sit on the shelf permanently now gathering dust, letting my feet just dangle over the side and rock them to and fro.

Opti, look at it this way flower, it's his loss not yours - do not feel too bad love, he can't have been Mr Right, dust yourself off and get back fighting, don't lie down - positive thinking ok

Was it as sudden as that Opti?. Surely there may've been some kind of indication last time you saw him. Why can't YOU contact HIM

If you've separated and it was discussed, Opti, then you should leave him alone and move on. It's all about dignity. There is no "happy ever after" people fall in love - and out of love - all the time. It's the nature of feelings.

I don't stay friends with my exes, there's no need, besides if they (or I) had new relationships - it can still hurt even if you don't want the ex any more.

I'm single since my last marriage ended in divorce - I've raised 4 children practically alone (for the last 30 years) so be grateful you're not a single mum bringing up a child alone. Count your blessings Opti, you are young, you have companionship in your dig, sister, parents, friends (real life) and friends here on hootoo.

I agree with GB and also disagree. It is over and I think you knew that for a while from your previous posts. He clearly sees it so, so put it away, don't waste energy on it and I certainly wouldn't contact him, don't be that needy.

As for there being no 'happy ever after' I think there is, though of course it depends on your definition of happiness, and I think there has been a major discussion on hootoo about that

There is happy ever after, but it can still be a bumpy road and not expecting perfection in all things is a good way forward. They are men after all, and as a good friend of mine often says they have 'manufacturing faults'. The trick is not to be constantly on the lookout, as it can send out signals that terrify men!!! Just get on with your life and it will happen, though maybe not as soon as you would like.

and just try to enjoy life. We only get one as far as I know.

Every day is a new beginning Opti; speaking for myself; life can be a routine sometimes-and when things change i feel lost at sea-but i realize i have to plot a course for somehwere, so just point in what i think is the right direction, away from any oncoming storms-not too far out into the open sea(for i am only a little dinghy ), and not too near the rocks on the shore; avoiding the temptation to ground on the nearest pretty beach ( which could just aswell be quicksand ), but follow the coast and there will be a safe harbour, with a frendly inn and roaring fire by the quayside ( where i can patch up any holes in my sail or hull-then get drunkand a friendy ( nosey ) welcome.

You are still young Opti, enjoy your life - enjoy being independant - live at your own pace and plot your own course.

I saw one of the vans my ex travels around in today and felt sick and angry at the sametime. On checking my facebook account I notice he has recently changed his status to single which upsets me...I won't cry but do question 'why?' he hasn't even bothered to talk to me since we broke up, why did he treat me badly, does the fact i may have aspergers have something to do with it? you wouldn't treat a friend the way he treated me.....
