Go out and drive contact your instructor and get him to take you out if nothing else. I take it you have no car yet.

It took me a whole month after passing my test to work up to driving by myself. Now it's nearly three months since I passed and it's gone from being nerve wracking to just a bit boring. The only bit of advice I can think of right now is that the longer you leave it the worse it will be. I started making silly excuses as to why I couldn't drive, like 'what if I take the wrong turning and get lost?' Eventually PSG got me to drive around for an hour then got out the car and told me to drive to a place I knew and back again. Needless to say, I didn't get lost . There is no substitute for experiance, and I'm far better at driving now than when I first passed, you'll soon find it gets a lot easier very quickly

just been out in my new car. apart from it having a high clutch and thus making a loud noise, which worried me and turned one leg to jelly the other stiff. Oh and worrying my mum whenever a car or bus or wall got too close. I survived. Phew

I've a polo. I learnt to drive in one so I felt it was the car for me. What cars do you two drive?
What narrowly missing stuff! are you sure? yes practice is helpful

A skoda fabia (don't laugh). It's new and blue and very nice. It was the best car we could get for the money and it drives beautifully.
You missed it, that's that important thing

I was forever worrying people about how close I got to walls and the like. I was convinced I was miles away until I clipped my wing mirror on one. Luckily it's one of those foldy ones so it didn't damage it. But the was not long after I had passed. I'm much improved now, and the same will happen for you.

I took another little test drive today along country lanes. The only problem being that I had difficulty putting the gears in esp. 5th. I didn't drive on the dual carriageway home either mum did that. Am I really in just doing little bits? should i have done it all?

Opti,
Every new driver has the odd little bump or scrape - it just makes you more careful. You have the advantage of your own car - imagine driving your husband's pride and joy?!??!
The more you drive, especially when you have to force yourself the easier it will get. Concentrate on the road and the butterflies and nerves will soon disappear.

I would not feel comfortable driving my bf's C3. I know what you mean.
I'm sure you are right. It was like that when I first learnt and this is a new car so it'll take a bit of getting used to. Don't have far to go to work either. Plus alternating driving with my mum is helping her realise I have come a long way since the early days.

I took driving in stages too after my test, it took a few weeks before I'd attempt car parks on my own. I love country driving so had no trouble there. At first PSG would drive back from wherever we went if I was feeling too tired or uncertain. If another driver did something stupid I would sometimes panic. Three months after passing my test though I'm confident to do all the driving myself. I'm a far better driver now than at the time I passed, I'm sure that you will get better very quickly too

I didn't mean that link to appear. Anyhow been driving to and from work on country roads. There's a few blind spots to watch out for and curbs that leap out at you occassionally!
