there was meant to be a certain number of groups doing their presentation on the day that i did mine with my group but they all emailed in claiming to be sick... when (i'm guessing) the only one who actually was sick was ME! the lecturer refused to let us leave it till next week too and i complained to the teacher saying i'd been ill all week i hope i haven't turned him against me now or something

Did you have a doctor's note? You really need one to get extenuating circumstances (spll?) I'd see your personal tutor about it.

will find out about that tmw I personally don't have a clue how to go about getting one at present

About which bit?
You get the extenuating circumstances form from personal tutor
It needs to be accompanied by a doctor's note, which you get by making an appointment with the doctor etc.
Then you give the form back in and your tutor deals with it (or at least tells you how).

the bit that you just explained to me I had no idea about thanks for shedding some light on uni life ... here I think they expect you to know these things without having to tell you

Laura Posted Nov 19, 2003
That is a problem with uni. They change things and then expect you to know about them. Info on the forms tend to be part of the small print on examination rules and regulations etc. Very easy to miss.

I saw the doctor today and she told me I need to dose up on paracetamol... I personally think thats an excuse to get rid of me as theres nothing else that i can do to get rid of this pain from my chest ... what do you think?

Laura Posted Nov 20, 2003
Well, I'm no medical student, there's really very little that I can suggest but
Paracetamol is a painkiller so it should help. I don't find it all that helpful myself, but atleast it's something.
I don't know what type of cough you have, tickly or chesty? Do you have a sore (sppl?) throat as well? Headache? Cold?
Dairy products are very bad if you have a cold, they enhance mucus production .
No hot drinks or very hot food, but then nothing too cold either. It puts strain on blood vessels, causing them to expand and contract a lot. Stick to warm food and cool drinks if you've a sore throat.
Honey's good. It coats the throat and stops it hurting when you cough. Toast is great too, as it relieves the tickling for a while. Honey on toast is therefore naturally a great idea.
Doctors aren't very good when it comes to 'flu and viruses in general. All they can do is help relieve some of the symptoms which the paracetamol will help with. Ibuprofen (again sppl?) is a better painkiller and also reduces swelling. What's more you can take it at the same time as paracetamol.
Without wanting to sound like an advertisement, Beechems cold and flu got me through fresher's last year. Great stuff.
Hmmm

I have a cold, have had a 20 min nose bleed, chesty cough, been asthmatic till the age of 7. I did have a sore throat for a day and bit of headache at times. At present a bit of cold, chesty cough and pain in chest when breathing. So I cannot drink tea then? and roast dinners are off the menu? will have to get honey. I think a trip to the shops maybe in order

Tea while it's still steaming is probably not a good idea. Roast dinner should be fine.
A nose bleed shouldn't have lasted that long. Remember, bend over, head down, pinch soft part of nose and stay there for 5-10 minutes. 10 is better.
The pain is unfortunately a result of the cough, lungs are very delicate as I'm sure you're aware. That won't heal until the cough diminishes, so it's probably a case for Veenos. Tastes horrible but I found it effective.

Thanks for trying to make me better... I feel ok now except for a bad back due to lugging around a huge amount of books and I have to hand in an essay today not sure its any good though.
heres a random question what do you think of religion?

Laura Posted Nov 24, 2003
Are you sure you need all the things you lug around?
Well that is a random question , or at least one that's hard to reply to. However my general opinion is 'life's too short to peal a grape'. I'll expand on that if you want me too but that just about sums up my point of view.

I take it you aren't interested in religion or that there is so many layers to it that it is hard to start talking about it... I'm now thinking of the idea of donkeys having layers in shrek lol Personally I think religion is very interesting as theres so much to it... however it is as hard as politics when it comes to be written about ...plus a lot of wars have come about due to it... I once read the background behind my saint name and discovered that she married king cole and discovered the cross of jesus (perhaps the name makes both of us seek proof)
As for books I didn't need that many afterall I wonder how many books etc I really should be drawing things from for essays these days...how many do you use?

Laura Posted Nov 26, 2003
I think religion is very interesting, it's just that as I can't proove or disprove any of it, I don't see the point of worrying or arguing about it. Religion can be used by poilitics for the wrong reasons, but then I'm sure it stands for some good too... Generally I'm quite neutral in the matter.
One thing about my subject is that there is no proof, it is based around disproof. You can never be sure about anything.
Well, I tend to use about 4-6 for an essay (but then all my essays are generally projects). I then use journals and internet sites on top of that.
