All sound advice, Vestie. He doesn't want to be separated from his cat, which is what makes things so complicated.

I told him to go to the office tomorrow and try to sort money/shelter out. It seems he once got accommodation support (temporarily), and he said they are hellholes. smiley - erm

I'll call my friend tomorrow, she may know somebody who can help.

I've heard several people who have said that they would rather sleep on the street or in a shop doorway in winter than stay in a temporary hostel. You don't sleep as you are on the lookout for people stealing your belongings or doing things to you.

European countries are in a bad way financially and this reflects in how they treat their most vulnerable people, sadly.

Bel, you are kind and considerate but sometimes people bring these things upon themselves but I do understand your concern. It is not a nice situation to be in with the weather as it is at present. I don't know the precedures there but surely there should be some help from the authorities? Having said that ours are stretched to breaking point and pretty useless.

Amid your concern for others don't forget to take care of yourself. Don't get too involved ...... oh, and pot and kettle comes to mind, I am just as bad at getting involved when perhaps I shouldn't smiley - smiley

Well, it's the weekend, so no office is open. I don't know what exactly happened, and what his mother told the police. I'm angry that the police was useless in helping him. I *did* wonder whether i should go to his mother and try to talk to her, but I didn't dare. She's an alcoholic, and I haven't a clue what might have happened had I gone.
So no, apart from trying to give moral support and maybe a little money and food I won't get involved. But don't forget: he was one of two mates who gave shelter to my own son when he was in the same situation. I owe him for that alone.

Sho - employed again!

that's Karma working. He did something good for someone and now he gets to cash in a couple of Karma chips.

I do think, though, that this country is mad for, effectively, treating grown up people (23!) as children.

Music programmes on radio in Spain are superb. They just played this:

Teach Your Children Well - Crosby Stills Nash & Young

Well I neither know nor care what particular substances Messrs CNM&Y were abusing at the time. They produced some terrific harmonies and some amazing tripe for lyrics!

You who are on the road
Must have a code that you can live by
And so become yourself
Because the past is just a good bye.

Teach your children well,
Their father's hell did slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picked, the one you'll know by.

Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you would cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.

And you, of tender years,
Can't know the fears that your elders grew by,
And so please help them with your youth,
They seek the truth before they can die.

Please explain - doesn't sound like a coherent plea for better education to me!

And returning to the original situation, and so many other similar situations these days, Where's the father in all this?

It's poetry, Pheroneous II, and will neither appeal nor be understood by everyone - just ask jwf.

Mr Elf, Sir, I can happily hum along to it, and applauded the harmonies, but when you apply yourself to the lyrics...

I remember listening to the LP when it came out and thinking it was good stuff, until the track "almost cut my hair" at which point at which point it dawned that these guys were on something. This had nothing to do with the fact that I had just shorn my locks for a job interview!

In those days, it was assumed that members of most of the new wave of bands were on something - I certainly was.
Déjà Vu recalls that era perfectly for me. We got off on the music - the lyrics didn't have to be meaningful.

I brought 'Teach Your Children' here to mark the coincidence that it was being played on national radio
while I was reading this thread - and, as you say, it's pleasant enough to hum along with.

"Please don't tell me ~jwf~ is Crosby in disguise!!" smiley - spacesmiley - bigeyes
You've reattached his wings, so I guess you know him well enough to ask him. smiley - spacesmiley - smiley
