I never use Brunel, since I'm not fond of the colour scheme, but happened to see the FrontPage today, and actually liked it!
Tastes, eh? No accounting for what people like!

I can wait for a week. That's not as bad as changing to goo. *spit*

Goo? GOO?
That has none of the crisp, minimalist whiteness of some skins I could mention (well, one).

Ah no, Mr Box - an honest mistake on your part.
The skin I'm referring to is as white as the freshly fallen snow, as the softest goose down, as the purest cotton sheets. It's the Alabaster skin, my friend. Just click that button and open your mind to a new surfing experience...

Guide Editor decisions are generally joint affairs and we're not supposed to single out individual Guide Editors.
But this was Lanzababy's fault.
Lanza and Tav chose the colour scheme between them, based on the flowers on the trees in Olympia in my photo. I love the colour scheme!

Okay, have your skin arguments.
But a small (perhaps) point:
As you may have noticed from other threads, some of us are visually impaired. Not blind - that requires a different accessibility - but visually impaired.
This means that we:
1. Will never be able to see all the smileys. (I've put them up. Doesn't mean I can really appreciate that snowdrop, although I can make it out in Goo. Without the description, I had no idea what I was loading. Add to that the fact that it's a foreign flower...)
2. Use Brunel for the contrast.
3. Tend to have weird reactions to some (most) pastel background shades.
Are those of us who use Brunel for that reason in a tiny minority - in which case we should shut up?
All jokes about Goo aside (and it's a beautiful shade of blue), I would have to ration the work I did on this site if it were the only one available, because I would get a headache. If you've got good vision, bless you, enjoy.

Would you like to make recommendations for colour schemes which are all OK for people with vision problems, Dmitri?
We could stick to one of, say, 20 standard schemes.
The BBC h2g2 Instructions list 29 different colour schemes they used, but I've no idea how easy to see they were.

I think that would be a good idea, Gnomon. I'm suspecting from comments from other Researchers that Elektra, Bel, and I might not be alone here.
I could use myself as a guinea pig, of course. But maybe we could get a volunteer or two to offer an opinion, as well?
How about linking to your colour chart here, and let some folks make a list marked 'Preferred' and 'Do Not Want'?
No fair volunteering if you've never failed an eye test.

A colour might look OK in a tiny block but awful in large quantities on the Front Page. I'll think about this.

That sounds really useful!
I can't remember who said it, but it's still true:
People create work for people.
All these great ideas though!

I agree, except i also didnt like last weeks colour - have we got a conspiracy to drive us out of brunel?

Don't remember what colour it was last week.
And there should be a distinction between "don't like" and "can't use".
Key: Complain about this post
