German version of poke is 'anstupsen', which the dictionary tells me is to nudge or prod. But Facebook is American, and it seems that American English is far less ambiguous than British English.

The American English I grew up with has "poke" as a paper bag or a native green. I refuse to be intimidated by other asinine and unsavory definitions.
