Rev Nick { Only the dead are without fear }

"Some" boys I suppose might. It's not something myself or any of my classmates ever considered. But as farm and village folks, I suppose you learn to face life and realities, and deal with it. It WILL always be waiting for you, if you try to run or hide.

From this and side-chats, I still am sure that an already strong lad such as your smiley - chef will come away stronger and more self-reliant. Just my smiley - 2cents

Platypus 2

Hi Bel,
Another suggestion is perhaps you could find a local uni student to coach/help him in the subjects he feels unsuccessful, my daughter(13) was not doing so well at math and her school arranges peer tutoring in the library during scripture (for those who don't attend scripture) where older students help the younger ones. Her grades picked up as did her self confidence in maths.

If you can find one that he will trust and you have confidence in,it may also providesanother outlet for him to talk about the things that parents just wouldn't understand.

I hope that you don't mind my putting in my (2cents)worth

Oooh, good idea Platypus... hee hee... platypi are cute... sorry, irrelevant...

Warning, the rest of this post is a rant about anime!!! The chances of any of you being interested in this is nearly non-existant. Get out while you still can.

Aaaaanyway... ooooh, no no no no no, the various anime shows are very different. See, there's stuff like Sailor Moon, which is about a group of superheros who are all princesses of their own planet from the past, and at a royal ball 1000 years ago on he moon when evil attacked, Queen Serenity used all her energy to seal away the evil for 1000 years because if she'd killed it, it would have killed everyone there including her own daughter and all the various people attending the ball, so her daughter and and the other princesses got sealed away only to be reborn on Earth 1000 years later and then get their powers to fight off the evil. And then there's Pokemon which is about a group of young kids on a journey in a world full of animals which you can catch and train to fight, and in each episode the kids use their Pokemon to foil some kind of small time crime or something, or they go in a tournament. And then there's Digimon, which is another thing with animals that are used to fight, but these kids come from the real world and were thrown into some weird world with these animals, as well as evil animals they have to fight. And then there's Dragon Ball Z, which is about various people who can do crazy special moves by harnessing their energy and stuff, and making crazy energy ball things, and there are some people there who are actually aliens without knowing it, until some time when they find out, but they can make it so their hair is blonde, and then they're more powerful (I haven't really watched the show much, so I have a very little understanding of it) and there are 7 dragon balls scattered over Earth, and when someone collects all 7 a dragon appears and grants them a wish, and then the dragon balls get scattered again, so someone else can collect them. And then there's Card Captors (which I haven't watched in aaaaaages so I don't remember it well) where there's a girl who has to go around collecting all these cards 'cause they were in card form, but then they got released and turned into weird monsters and stuff, so she has to go around using the magic of the cards she's already collected to fight these monsters and turn them back into cards, and then she can use their power, and at the end of each episode they rant about her outfit, and there's that weird flying teddy bear thing that likes food... And then there's stuff like Love Hina, which is more realistic about Keitaro who becomes the manager of an all girls dorm when his grandma who used to be the manager decides to go travelling the world, meanwhile he's trying to get into Tokyo U which is like the best university because of a promise he made to a little girl 15 years ago, although he can't remember her name or what she looks like, and Naru (a girl at the dorm) is also trying to get into the university, and she's always beating him up and calling him a pervert and getting angry with him if another girl likes him, but not admitting to liking him herself, and then Mitsumi comes in and starts hitting on Keitaro while also encouraging Keitaro and Naru to get together... and she gives them a turtle! But in that there's also some weird stuff like when Su makes that Mecha Tama that ends up becoming huge 'cause it keeps eating electronics, and then Motoko has to fight it off, and also when Su is becoming an adult when the moon is red for her big brother who comes to Japan in a later episode to say that Su has to marry him so that he can take the thrown of their home country... Sorry.... Rant.

*starts drawing up a graph that directly links the level of insanity in these cartoons to the price of chips* You see? *draws it as a pie chart too, and then steals a slice* Mmmmm, pie.

Hmmm... yeah.... but English is hard, it doesn't count. smiley - tongueout What would you say his worst subject is (if it's English, what's the second worst)? I have no idea why I am asking this, by the way.

Hmmm... yeah... my mum seems to think they're all exactly the same. All the girls are the same, and all the boys are the same... except for Sailor Uranus who looks like a boy but isn't... ah, but they're not. And the drawing kind of varies from show to show anyway, although some are quite alike.............. *trails off*

Back to the main point of this thread... hmmm... how to help him... *ponders this* What do would my sister or I do about a subject we're bad at.......? Well, I just get the low marks in it and am satasfied with being bad at that class (stuff like PE and Art and Textiles) and getting good marks and maths and stuff... and my sister would have my mum complain at the school until she's allowed to drop the class... smiley - erm Neither of these are good solutions... well, if it's a pointless class then it's an excellent solution, but if it's something that kind of everything else in life is based on, then we need another way out... then again we're not really talking about an it here... it's a they... hmm... they... there is always the horrible idea of having him repeat a year of school... but that would just lower his self esteem too much... I've had many nightmares about being kept down. Horrifying. *thinks* Where was I....? I forget... I'm just gonna post this now...

We can't choose which classes to do - that would be nice, both boys would stop their English classes immediately - they hate the language, and they hate that they have to do it. And it looks as if both boys will have to repeat the class next year smiley - erm

Very stylised form of Cartoon art. I find it rather repetitive.
And how are you today, B'Elana? I hope you managed to get some rest yesterday, and are feeling a little more relaxed and less stressed than yesterday.
Are things a little more settled now, or are things pretty much the same?
When I truanted, I thought I was being so clever. I was working in a very old-fashioned, Victorian-style Mens- and Schoolwear store on a saturday and holidays at the time, so when I bunked off from School I would go there, and hang out with my work colleagues. If I was caught I would claim to be there buying a new tie... Worked every time.
I must admit most of the time it was to get out of smiley - yuk Sport and Maths.
Of course, it backfired as when I got to College, I was unable to understand statistics.
Now, I cannot get enough of the education and refence programmes. They are usually the only programs I watch these days. smiley - geek

Boring I know.

Hmmm... but languages are cool! I love English, 'tis a fine language. I love German too, although I suck at it. (That reminds me... I gotta prepare for calling my German teacher 'cause I've been avoiding the phone lessons for weeks... smiley - whistle But I'll fail if I don't do it, and I don't wanna fail German in case I decide to do IB and need to do a language for it... plus... I like German...) I hate French, though... *shudders at memories of French classes* Although that might have been 'cause I really hated all my French teachers................. *trails off* Aaaaaaaanyway... Well, at my old school at least in years 7 and 8 (year seven you should be turning 13, and year eight you should be turning 14, just so you have some idea how to compare it to however your schooling works...) you had to say what you preferences were in the way of languages, you had to choose 2 out of Chinese, French and German. Most people chose German as one of theirs, and so a lot of people ended up having to do French and Chinese just 'cause there were too many wanting to do German.... But some people only did one language, or none, and in the time when everyone else is doing languages there's also a class where they just go and get help with any work from any class they didn't understand, and got help with their homework... I don't know much about it, but based on the few times I had to get some books from a classroom where one of those classes was going on, it was fairly boring, but seemed helpful to the students who needed the help... I have no idea how any of this is meant to help.

I slept better this night, but I'm far from being relaxed. I just hope his teacher will be helpful tomorrow, she'll have experienced this mayn times I think, so should have some advice.

But... but... maths is so nice! In the last school holidays I did the entire next term's maths work in a day so I didn't have any maths to do this term, but I'm gonna get next semester's maths work and get that done by mid year so I will have this year's maths done by then, and then in the 2nd semester I can do next year's maths and then in year 10 I can do year 11 maths and have a VCE subject out of the way.

I liked maths - some terms, it wholly depended on the topic - I never undserstood geometry, I still can't turn an object in my mind

I don't like geometry, but I can still do it... I just don't like having to draw the stuff and measure lines and angles and stuff........ I just like having a mathematical problem, and then figuring out the answer.
