...that was the sound my PC made this morning before packing in.
I'm afraid it's the hard disk, which will probably mean a total loss of data - again. smiley - wah

Right now, I'm on my son's PC. Even that wasn't meant to be without difficulties, as I had to wake him up to ask how to switch it on. Turned out, the start button tends to get stuck if you don't press it properly. smiley - rolleyes

So, once he's fully awake (and with his keyboard being as loud as it is that won't take long), I'll be without PC for the rest of the day for an unforeseeable time. smiley - cry

What's even worse, is, there'll be no excuse to procrastinate the housework then. smiley - wah

Good idea, but it's an unwritten law in this family that everybody who's having a holiday or weekend- is having a holiday or weekend - except me.

I'm not really here

smiley - cuddle

How awful!

I stopped backing up my data onto cd when I got this pc, because the old cd burner software wouldn't work with XP.

I must fix that!

I'll miss you. smiley - sadface

Sounds like it's time that law was repealed. smiley - cross

Just waltz into his room, open the windows wide, and start hoovering around him.

Yes, a backup CD is certainly a good idea. The irony is, that I had eventually started writing a guide entry, but as I always do this offline, it's gone. I'm not sure I'll restart it all at a later time. Exactly the same happened when my laptop broke. Will I ever learn? I'm only glad that I have stored most photos online this time.

<<Just waltz into his room, open the windows wide, and start hoovering around him.<<

Bad idea, cause once he's awake, I have to leave his pc. And the windows are wide open.

The lazy so-and-so. I'd send him over to his friends' house.

So, what will you do about your PC? smiley - sadface

I don't know. I haven't a clue about PCs. I think a new hard drive isn't that expensive nowadays, but money is tight, and usually, I'm the last one in the queue for new PC equipment anyway.

Oh, darn it! I've got an old PC sitting in storage but I am fairly certain it would be of no use to you, as it's rated for USA electrical. smiley - sadface

I agree that it's a shame that everyone gets to have fun and avoid housework except for Bel. Sorry, son, mom needs to use the computer today for Super High Priority Things.
