NaJoPoMo 2013 Lanzababy - Strictly Falling Asleep
Lanzababy - Guide Editor Started conversation Nov 16, 2013
I don't watch much TV, because when I do I fall asleep. I should have a TV in the bedroom, as a sleep aid. (I don't.)
Tonight, I watched Strictly, which was fun and then fell immediately asleep on the sofa until a few minutes ago. I've tidied the kitchen, drunk a glass of milk and now really need to go straight back to sleep again.
Goodnight world.

It would be nice to fall asleep in your bed rather than somewhere else, but does this affect the quality of your sleep?
People who give advice on getting to sleep suggest that you use your bedroom only for sleeping.

the only time I seem to fall asleep on the sofa, is when I spend most of my time in the bedroom, on the netbook... which is proabably a bad thing, for the interms of the only* doing sleeping in ones bedroom thing....

I had a sneaky lay-in today... woke the first time around 7, and didn't really appear out of the bed until 10

Ian falls asleep during films, this is embarrassing when we're at the cinema as he tends to snore! I can't fall asleep anywhere but in bed. Although right now, I could sleep for a week, after yet another stressful day dealing with Mum and her problems. My left eye is bloodshot, a sure sign I am stressed to the eyeballs. I'm about to watch Strictly on the iPlayer due to missing it last night. I won't fall asleep, but I surely will when my head hits the pillow tonight

It's already dark by 5:00 p.m. these days. I guess the people who live further north have nightfall even earlier, but back in the summer their daylight hours stretched much further than mine did.

I'm not sure I agree with the idea that a bedroom is strictly for sleeping, although you may not value the opinion of someone who lives in bed! I think the bedroom should be an unwinding and relaxing place, and that this will make it easier to fall asleep.
Of course, my five cats always followed me to bed, distributed themselves around the bed, and showed me how to relax.

A bedroom should have an electrically adjustable bed, a bedside table with an adjustable lamp, assorted , of course, a bottle of (and a glass for the posh amongst us), a computer with internet access, a television set and a decent stereo
(Here's a tip if you can't afford this right away: Sell your alarm clock)

It can be anything you want it to be. I was only suggesting that people who have trouble falling asleep should designate it as such.

What is it to fall asleep, anyway? Seems like you get into bed, turn off the light, find your sleeping position, and then pretend to be asleep until you ~are~ asleep.

Sleep deprivation is said to be a problem for millions of people. I ran through a bad patch of it myself 25 years ago. It was a byproduct of depression. Some people have just the sleep problems, which is bad enough.
Some function well with less sleep than others. I need a solid eight hours of it each night.

Sleep deprivation, alcoholism and depression go hand in hand in hand - or may do so anyway. One or two may lead to the third in no particular order and enhance each other
On a happier note: Since my retirement I can sleep whenever I want to. This of course makes a huge difference! If I can't sleep I can read a watch tv or dvd or talk to friends on the net. There are always some of them awake somewhere. At least the English speaking friends. I don't have to force myself to sleep because I have to be up in the morning and go to w*rk
