Damn! I just got a wrong number.

And now I feel all annoyed, not because it was a wrong number, but because my battery failed at the very second I was about to say something more than 'Hullo?'

You see, the guy at the other end said 'Jerry?' and then, 'Well, obviously NOT Jerry, because you have such a nice voice.'

And I was thinking, 'You've got a gorgeous sounding voice yourself too, stranger.'

And then my bloody phone died!

It could have been the start of a beautiful friendship.

Meanwhile in a parallel universe, Lanza takes her phone off charge to answer it.

Lanza: "Hullo?"

Gorgeous Sounding Stranger: "Jerry? Well, obviously NOT Jerry, because you have such a nice voice. Is Jerry there?"

L: "I'm sorry, you must have the wrong number."

GSS: "Oh, that's a shame. I thought I'd be lucky enough to meet you later when I go over to Jerry's."

L: " I'm afraid that's not going to happen. It IS a shame."

GSS: "This may sound forward but..."

I shamelessly chatted up a girl, over the phone, from a company who called me... I think it may have been an energy company or perhaps a telicoms (sales call)... I mean, really shamlessly.... perhaps she was just gad to have a conversatio rater than a quick 'sod off' and hang up... Turned out she lived miles away... which was ap pity...

debs got it in one... oh well... these things are sent to tantalise us.

Consider yourself lucky. He'd have only sold you payment protection insurance.

... with a voice like his Icy, I'd have signed up. Think Connery/Hugh Grant. Or the male equivalent of Mariela Frostrup or whoever gives you males a case of wobbly knees.

I had a loverly long refreshing invigerating arguement with a man on the phone, only err, either yesterday, or the day before, about PPI insurance, and the mis-selling thereof...

I've not had any PPI ...

NO, I coudln't, I've never had a loan, I've never had a morgage, I've never used an overdraft, or paid for one, and I've never paid credit cards a penny in interest, or charges...

No. No I haven't... because I've never done HP, or ... whatever it was... or wahtever that was... NO, not that either... yes.. really... NO, relaly. really, no, really I never have....

His disbelief in my inability to 'take part in modern society' and 'spend beyond my means', utterly paralysed him to be able to accept, or hear what I was saying... He was genuinely shocked (and I must have been bord, to not have just hung up stairhgt away...)

I just get computer dialled junk phone calls rather than actual people speaking

I used to enjoy the late show on my local radio station, though - it was presented by two people, both with lovely mellow voices, just right for adding warmth to dark winter evenings

The disadvantage of mobile phones is that you can have the same provider code and still live 700 miles apart. The advantage is, of course, that if you don't want anything to do with them again, they probably won't be able to find you.

It was a Manchester number - ie not that far away....

I'm sort of tempted to ring them back in a day or so, ask for 'Jerry' and play dumb.

Oh! do! I once got into quite a long conversation via TXT with a school-grl from Wales I think it was, wh acidentially sent me a TXT asking if I'd remembered to bring a book into school

I'm having a really hard time imagining a voice that sounds like both Sean Connery and Hugh Grant.

Easy just like the early Bond films good blokes but cant say I fancy either of them.
