I DID read the end of the Book Thief. It made me cry and turned out in a very acceptable way indeed. I won't say more else it may spoil it for anyone else who's thinking of reading it at some time.

In other news, I've been spending money slowly, by buying up stocks of those kindle daily deals. Perfect holiday reading, and so far they've been very good value. I've often been disappointed with a book I've bought in a shop, or borrowed from the library.

The customer reviews really point me away from books that I'd not enjoy, and you don't get those in shops. I'm thinking that by the time I've read approximately 30 books I'll have paid for this tablet, by saving money at the airport bookstores and expensive English bookstores here. If I don't have much else to do, I can read a book in a day, so I get through quite a few per year.

I'll still be on the lookout for interesting secondhand paperbacks. I wonder if the source of them will begin to dry up, if other people switch to eBooks. I used to recycle many of mine.

I'm glad you enjoyed The Book Thief. I was wondering if you'd be able to finish it. Don't read nearly enough myself.

Florida Sailor All is well with the world

I happened to catch the end of an ad on television for a new movie that is being released, based on 'The Book Thief'.

I didn't hear the details, but I have been trying to find a copy since reading the review here.

I am sure the book will be better than a film.

Not sure if the real* paper/hard copy books are going to dry up anytime soon on the second-hand circuit... AFterall, a lot are third, forth and forty-second hand and just go round and round between differnt second-hand book shops, charity shops, and the people who briefly own them smiley - zensmiley - book Though, a lot do get thrown away, when people have so* many in their colection they want to get rid of, and they're 'value' is so low no one really wants to take them all... smiley - sadface Mind, I don't even 'own' or 'have' a copy of the books I read now, as I don't even download, the books, just stream them (audio books), to my netbook... when its working smiley - grr I've only been two days without my netbook, and already I'm missing not having anything to read smiley - wahsmiley - book

I'm sure that old paper books breed in my attic - that's the only explanation for the phenomenon of constantly sorting through the books there and giving a load to charity, only to find there are still boxes and boxes of books...

I've just bought a new 'daily deal' For 99p I feel relaxed about that little [buy now with 1 click] button. Oh so easy! Nothing simpler in the world.

Today I've clicked the button and bought "The Art of Hearing Heartbeats"
I've got a few unread books queued up now, so that makes me feel better. Sometimes I'm not in the mood for reading very moving stuff and just want the comfort food equivalent in reading to dream away to for a while. Soothe the brain cells into submission.

But on that note, I need to turn up the brain thermostat and add coffee.

We had the same conversation about real books on holiday , always used to take paperbacks away with us and usually leave them in the communal pile at the hotel/villa etc. For the last few years we've gone electronic, space and choice winning over paper I'm afraid. So when will second hand books vanish from the holiday scene? sad really isnt it.

I know both William, and my lodger have vast quantities of unwanted books, they're trying to 'recycle' via charity shops and the like... Quite a lot of which are serious non-fiction acacdemic style things, which, certainly when they'd have bought them, would have cost a fortune per book smiley - bigeyes I know from William, some of the charity shops round here, won't just take any old piles of novels/paperbacks, I guess this is probably because they're swamped with so many... smiley - sadfacesmiley - book all my old paper copy books, when to my Brother, and he's had a few batches of f of my lodger too over the years (mainly so0-called 'classic fiction' smiley - weirdsmiley - book
I've gotten lazy with reading, and hardly ever seem to muster up the energy and concentration to read any proper* books these days, and instead just read trashy thrillers, chrime, romance and comedy stuff instead smiley - blush been ages since I read anything remotely 'long' smiley - snorksmiley - blushsmiley - headhurts

Storm

The end was sad... I hate it when a good book has to end... There never seems to be a really satisfactory way for it to happen. I quite like books that just stop.

I hate the end of books. its either too* sad.... too (i wanna know what happens next), or... just 'too flat'... sadly, disliking 'too flat', doesnt' necessarily tie in with the also hating the 'main character dies and leaves me in tears, etc.'.... smiley - weirdsmiley - sadfacesmiley - weirdsmiley - book
