The 10:00 BBC DST SSO drop is going to stay for a while

The daily logout we experience every night around 10 (10:00 until 10:15) is there to stay for a while.

The SSO server has been 'upgraded' last maintenance and the hot update procedure does not work for the time beeing. We will experience these cold updates daily until the hot fix is back. (unknown date)

"Since the recent maintenance 'Friday, 13 April, 2007 Server Downtime...' < F77636?thread=4054931 >, we have a daily SSO down.

You will seem to be Signed-Out but there is no way to Sign-In. You can browse the site but not contribute to any conversation or entry. The 'new posts' are also not updated for what you have read.

On trying to submit you will get the message you have to be Signed-In, on Signing-In you did get a defect page reporting 'the SSO is in maintenance' and you should come back in short time to try again. (?) {I do not have a local copy of the page at hand and missed the entire event the last few days.}"

That would explain why I have missed several SSO drops smiley - wow.

Traveller in Time Reporting Bugs -o-o- Broken the chain of Pliny -o-o- Hired

Traveller in Time trying to define SSO "when you _Sign-In_ your name and password are compared with the SSO Database, if there is a match you get a cookie. On every page you request, the server polls your cookie, and will show your User Name on top of the pages, along with reply buttons and other gadgets. The SSO down is merely the SSO server not requesting your cookie, but it is still there on your system. You are not really Signed Out it is just the SSO does not confirm you are signed in. Not unlike viewing this very page in and odd way: < http://212.58.224.116/dna/h2g2/brunel/F124705?thread=4086848 > Your browser does not know of a cookie for the very IP address, only for www.bbc.co.uk. As soon as you follow a link you see you are still signed in. "
