As someone who has misspent quite a lot of time on both computer and board games, I think they are complementary rather than mutually exclusive. Board games (and other interactive games such as RPGs and Magic etc) are more sociable than computer games, but a computer game can be played any time of the day or night without needing other participants.
I just like games!

Hubby loves computer games, I never saw the attraction, although I did have a phase of freecell for a while.
I have never enjoyed many board games except for go. Normally I would rather read a book!

Actually, I find online/network computer gaming *can* be very sociable, more so than some games of say chess that I've played.

As a hardcore gamer i would choose to play a games console 100% of the time rather than a board game because you can take out any pent up anger or stress on either a beat em up or shoot em up whereas we a board game that is impossible to do i also think that board games are slowly becoming obsolute within the younger generation of today! and who believe that board games are for older people and not for them so i say long live games consoles and the wonderful word of technology! daisey duke
