There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

So... if I opened those same four pages in one Mozilla window but in four tabs, and saved that as my home page, it would open that way next time?

As for opening new tabs underneath - I have a two button mouse (no middle click), and I'm sure I went through right through the preferences looking for a setting which would let me do that. If you know of another way, I'd be glad to hear it smiley - smiley

There was one other advantage which Opera has over Mozilla for browsing h2g2... but now I can't recall what it is smiley - erm

Did you get Firebird to work, Gosho? If not, which Mozilla version are you using? Tabs works fine with both Firebird and Mozilla 1.4 (the few days old newest stable release).

Nice search thingie! smiley - ok
(Works (of course?) also with the new Netscape 7.1)

Yup, Mozilla 1.4 is out, I'm still on 1.4rc3 though as I'm not on broadband until tomorrow (woooooo). 1.4 is the final stable series of the integrated suite, 1.5 will be Mozilla Firebird and Mozilla Thunderbird as seperate applications on the Gecko Runtime Environment, which has all sorts of advantages and is very exciting smiley - biggrin

Nice to see this search thingy works fine in all of them though! I'm going to go and try it out now.

Gosho, so's you know:
the 'Tabbed Browsing' Preferences page (inside 'Navigator') in Mozilla has an option for "load links in background", which I think is what gives mine the behaviour it has. And I notice that the option that lets me middle-click also works for ctrl-click - that might be helpful to you if you only have two buttons.

and the home page option (on the 'Navigator' prefs page itself) has a specific button for "use this group of tabs", so that's definitely possible.

just thought I'd let you know, in case yo were curious.

Thanks, I'll check it out when I get home from work later today smiley - ok

The middle-click is an old UNIX thing, Netscape always used to use middle-click to open links in a new window. I'm very glad to see it on the Windows version of Mozilla, as it's incredibly useful (and has become even more useful now you can point it at tabs instead of windows. I love tabs!)

Excellent!

I have recently become a Mozilla convert after going off Opera and finding myself reverting to IE (oh the shame!). Firebird is great, in my opinion.

Oh and Gosho, launching Firebird with a new profile is easy, it really is. I'm not a programmer and I did it.

Assuming you're using Windows: click on Start and select 'run'. Then browse to MozillaFirebird.exe and click on 'open'. The file path should then be in the box. Just add '-p' to the end, click on 'ok' and away you go.

Well, here's what I did yesterday:

Follow all the links the Firebird download page. Download the zip file (all 12megs of it smiley - headhurts). Unzip it into a new directory. Find the .exe and double click on it. Find that nowt happened. Right click and select 'Open'. Nowt again. Discover that the search tool had installed in Mozilla 1.3. Shred all files in the Firebird directory and the directory too smiley - ok

Is it really worthwhile downloading those 12megs again? Is Firebird any better than Moz 1.3... or rather, 1.4 which I've now installed?

Can't you just unzip it again?

You need to start by creating a new profile with the "-p" thing.

The advantage of Firebird over Mozilla is just that it's only a browser. If you like the other bits that come with Mozilla, stick with that. The core is the same.

Plus I like the range of skins that are available for Firebird.
