I'm really worried about one of my husband's oldest friends who went to a Webmaster World conference in New Orleans last week and failed to return home on Sunday. He was last seen leaving the Park Plaza hotel on Saturday morning to go sightseeing. He's 42years old with glasses,collar-length grey hair and is over 6ft tall.

His wife and children are really worried as this is out of character for Ian.

It is the New Orleans Police Department and the FBI that should be contacted to file a missing person report.

I read the link and see the police have been notified.

The media can be helpful but expect anything.
After 3 days it seems they take more notice.
The credit card check is a good idea.
See what he has paid for and where or if there are unusual charges like it may be stolen. Perhaps placing a fraud alert on it so they call the wife if it is used, providing both names are on it or an employers.

I see no reason why you should not call the FBI.
I do not know if they are automatically notified or if they wait.
I believe each state has their own Division.
Colorado has the CBI = Colorado Bureau of Investigations.
I am not familiar with the agencies or power.

2 Bit was in law inforcement in Georgia I believe but that was a while ago. He may have some tips if he is still around.

ASK might be good to ask for tips on how to proceed.
There were a couple of researchers from New Orleans also.

You could see if he has filed any police reports - something may have happened to him and he could be stranded if his ID was taken.
The Red Cross, or a local N.O. travelors assistance - or a Travelors emergency type organization might be helpful.

Is there an Embassy you can call?
I am ignorant about that topic other than you see it mentioned when possible crimes have been suspected in other countries.

Hopefully the Police have checked the local hospitals.
I would think they could be emailed about your inquiry, at least to get the proper numbers to call.

I would not assume , unless it is specifically checked out.
Details are often missed.

Hi meg,I hope your friend is soon found safe and well.Would it help if you added a "tag" to your name,so that anyone in the area would seeit on the online list???Just a thought ,but it might help.

Thanks for the practical advice. I understand that his wife has contacted the British Embassy who are looking into his dissapearance. I think she's also looked into his banking but don't think it gave any clues. More info has come through to say he checked into another hotel on Saturday night and left for another meeting in Atlanta on Sunday. We've been told that cctv footage at the airports is being reviewed by his wife as it is uncertain if he actually took the flight, some query about no baggage having been checked in. Sorry this is really sketchy but it's snippets of info from his wife, who we don't want to keep quizzing but want to help. The good thing is that Ian is easily distinguishable in a crowd so will be seen on cctv if he was at either airport.

Have just hear that Ian has been found safe and well in Atlanta an hour ago. No details as to why he's not been in contact. His wife's phone is constantly engaged. My husband is so happy he says he'll break Ian's legs when he sees him. My dear beloved would never hurt anyone so I guess he means that he feels very relieved. Thank you so much for your practical advice and support when I was giving up hope
