We loved Firenze - were sorry we'd only arranged to stay there one night as we could easily have spent a lovely few days there. Did you go to the Science Museum? Brilliant museum, very well-done and welcoming to foreign visitors - unlike the very disappointing Museo Archeologico in Naples...

This is all very strange - I've no idea why opening my page would be a problem for some people...

Arnie Appleaide - Inspector General of the Defenders of Freedom Posted May 17, 2006
well color me blushed.
Astro-logica nails it. The original picture was larger (much larger) and the sub-chapter heading was readable. Long story short, I bought the t-shirt from a web-comic site, which had a cartoon about dorks (like me) thinking they were cool because they knew data compression algorithms.
Is that a humpback whale on the t-shirt, or just an orca/killer whale?
ps. The book is called "Numerical Recipes in C" 2nd edition, by Press, Teukolsky, Vetterling and Flannery. Admittedly it's an odd place for a data compression algorithm (as stated by the authors) but I'm not a computer scientist, so it's the only one I have

So kind of ironic that it's been squashed to the point of illegibility, huh? Actually, fotki just automatically rescales them unless you tell it not to.
I like the shirt, though And it *is* an orca...

Good picture of the Orca, M- including the saddle patch (usually used as an identifying mark along with dorsal fin nicks). Pity about the steel post up the humpback.
I was worried we had maxed out the pics, it's good to see some new ones!

Didn't you know about the humpback's pole? They drag it along the ocean floor and it stirs up the squid...

Mudhooks: ,,, busier than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest... Posted May 17, 2006
I was worried I had referred to it as a Humpback on "that other thread".... relief... I referred to its generic "whaleness" rather than a specific type.

Hmm... so the old saying is true, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do".
