Let's see how this one gets on - it could almost be shortened for BoTF, too...

Good stuff. They're building a high-speed overground long-distance maglev link between two major cities in China. I forget which ones, though.
Isn't it spelt 'Salzburg'?

Sure is - thanks for that. I may have been looking at the Swissmetro website in the origina; French and that got me thinking in French.
Salzbourg -> Salzburg done.

I'd never heard of this before - if only they had trains like that here!
My only suggestion would be to link to A305399, which describes Magnetic Levitation in a little more detail.

I suppose, although it's buried in loads of other stuff and is quite daunting. What does everyone else think?

Definitely need a link (or a longer explanation) on Maglev and in the absence of a proper entry on it I suppose that'll have to do (maybe add a footnote that A305399 goes into slightly more detail on Maglev)... or you could always find an external link on it....
Maglev sites -
http://www.fra.dot.gov/rdv/hsgt/maglev.htm (commercial and US-centric)
http://www.railserve.com/maglev.html (reccommended, goes into a lot of depth)
http://www.amasci.com/maglev/magschem.html (sciency, maybe not good for the lay reader)
A point against Maglev trains -> should they crash at top speed (heaven forbid) passengers will disintergrate on impact (something to do with the high speeds apparently)
Nice entry and like you said, fiddle around with it and it could go into the BotF as well.

Good entry.
You are a bit unkind to maglev technology. It's certaintly worth mentioning some other projects, as well as the Brimingham airport train.
Another link to look at: http://www.transrapid.de.

I remember that the same article that mentioned the Chinese project said that most of the technological knowhow being used was German... Britain led the world in maglev technology in thr 80s, but soon got overtaken

Sure did - the Chinese project site keeps reverting to German and is done with German expertise.

You're missing the full stop from the end of your maglev sentence, by the way...
I'm too lazy to bother right now (touch of the flu) but have you had a hunt for h2g2 links for any of the cities involved?

I like this artical, I agree with the others however that a seperate artical for you to link to about maglev is needed.
The mention of the channel tunnel assumes people know what it is a little footnote and a link to the edited artical on the the subject should fix that (A134740)
In general a good artical thats makes me hungry to find out more (which is a very good thing)

Edinburgh's A973686. Been recommended but not edited yet, but by the time this makes it, it should be in.
A742772 could be worth it, it's on Expat Bars in Lyon, so if you want a link to Lyon that could be it...
