I looked it up, and it seems that prednisone is converted into prednisolone in the liver. So they might not be exactly the same thing, but it sounds like they're fundamentally the same.
Prednisone is a corticosteroid; it's got really unpleasant side effects, but it helps. I don't use it daily, thankfully. The first time I took it, in the mid-90s, I double my weight from 96 lbs to 188 lbs. I've only lost about 40 since. I guess one also becomes dependent after using for more than 7 days. So, I use it every 4 months for 5 days, in a gradually decreasing dose.
I also take another corticosteroid called Advair (fluticasone/salmeterol) in addition to albuterol and montelukast.
