Nice article about a fantastic film. Haven't enjoyed watching a film so much in years (with a beautiful soundtrack to match - well worth picking up).

I hear a few key scenes had to be cut owing to reasons of time - anyone know anything about that?

The film will be available on rental at the end of March. The sell through version will hopefully have the deleted scenes on the DVD, and that will go on sale in May.

Yeah I loved the film too...

And musically, the segue from Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" into The Church's "Under The Milky Way" will never be rivalled in another film!

You did seem to miss out any mention of Drew Barrymore's part in the film (although small, she was also credited as Executive Producer, and no-one can forget the scene where she runs out of the school and screams F!!! at the top of her voice )...

Oh, and a subtle mistake - it's "Katharine Ross" not "Katherine Ross" ... was this the SubEditor's fault? I seem to remember it being spelled correctly when this was in PR *points finger*

Talking of sleeping, I thought that Drew (bless her) seemed to sleep walk through the whole fillum. Maybe thats just her acting. Well at least she got the film made...

Definately one of the best films i've seen in a long time. Loved it. I thought the soundtrack was incredable and have looked around for it but can't find it anywhere... Any suggestions?

The score is available on CD in the UK, but none of the pop songs (Echo & the Bunnymen, Duran Duran, etc) are on it- although the composers own rendition of Mad World is on there. I picked it up in my local (24 miles away!) independant record store, Selectadisc, but I have spotted it in Virgin and HMV. Have you tried shopping for it online?

It is a fantastic movie, and this is a well-written review. I have read many online opinions from people who claim to know what the film is about, only to betray their ignorance.

For instance, some people regard Donnie's acts of vandalism as subplots. There are no subplots in this film - everything is designed to occur for a reason, i.e. to set up another in the chain of events that will lead to Donnie's death.

I will admit to having to listen to the director's DVD commentary to get everything that was conveyed. Anyone else catch Frank's car in the opening sequence? Or the identity of the fat man in the red jogging suit? All is now clear to me, and it is simply a wonderful viewing experience.

I absolutly loved this movie....Jake Gyllenhal was my main reason for watching it at first but this was one of the best suspense movies I have seen in my life.....

If you look at the DVD- The Philosophy Of Time Travel, various key elements are intwined in the time travel equations, including water (the school flooding is an example), fire (Jim Cunningham's house) and metal (the gun, the axe, the engine from the airplane).
Its all very clerverly interwoven into the story, and the actions of Donnie and the final scenes start to make sense. Even if you haven't read the theories from the book and the plot seems a little confusing, the film is still entertaining enough for people to draw thier own conclusions about the time travel aspects.



I still don't know who the man in the jogging suit is though!!

The man in the red jogging suit is an FAA investigator, assigned to keep an eye on the Darko family following the incident with the jet engine.

If you look closely, you can see the same man - in formal attire - during the scenes depicting the aftermath of the initial crash, and Donnie's body being transported from the house at the end of the film.

Ohhhhh!!! I understand that now......
