How about a compromise?
We have two bathrooms (toilets, WCs, whatever) in our house and have "solved" this problem quite simply - my wife changes the roll in the bathroom downstairs and hangs it under, and I change the roll upstairs and hang it over - no strife (or trouble come to that)
