MoG - we need to chat to you.
We were planning on going counter clock-wise, which would mean Florida before Georgia. But - would you consider - could you consider - if we did it the other way round, and you joined us in Georgia and then came with us on the trip south?
Reason for this is that there is a meet of West Coast researchers in July, and it may make sense for us to go up the West Coast in July instead of down it in August.
Oh dearie me - this needs *lots* of planning...!

Hi, gang!
It sounds like you're talking about doing Georgia quite early - is that at all right? When you start nailing down dates, let me know when you're doing GA. I'd love to attend, and maybe even tag along, but though my family have a house there (which we're trying to fix up) I don't really live there anymore. Would be wonderful if I could coordinate my visit with the meet.
*looks at her badly-written posting, considers a rewrite; decides not to bother*
Sorry..
Thanks!
Nora

Georgia may be early or right at the end - it is not yet finally decided whether we will be going clockwise or anticlockwise. There is a west-coast meet late in July which we may be going to, in which case we will go anticlockwise.
But we will certainly let you know when we are planning on being in Georgia.

That should read: There is a west-coast meet late in July which we may be going to, in which case we will go CLOCKWISE!
Mind you, if I am navigating we may just do Mexico and South America instead!

Well my flights are the 13th July and the 9th September, so 'right at the end would be late August or early Sept.

Ben, we hafta talk. I really want to attend the Gilroy Garlic Festival Meet, but the more I think about it, the more I'm finding I really want to go counter-clockwise (that's what we calls it ovah heah). There are cultural, historical, and emotional reasons. The magical way we could do both would involve.... starting sooner! I know, I know, I know....
How inconvenient would it be to push the start date up enough to go according to our originally planned route, and yet be in Central California in time for Gilroy?
I'll be online tonight.

I'll be online tonight (Monday) at around 18:30 my time which'll be 00:30 your time I think, Ben. Y'all come find me on MSN. My man is leaving this morning so life'll settle back into more normal patterns now.
Whenever y'all decide to be here is fine by me and I'll see what I can do about meeting up in GA. Not much difference either way.

I'll catch you when I can. Let's wait for divine inspiration, eh, MoG?

I'm still not sure whether I'll be in GA when you're there, and I don't want to be a freeloader, but how far would it be OK to tag along? I'm thinking along the lines of seeing my folks in Atlanta and rambling with you for a while, then catching a flight back to Dublin from another town. If this proved feasible, would be willing to help pay gas / petrol.

Hi Nora, that sounds great!
We'll probably be in Georgia... after the middle of June, before July. We'll have a more precise date pretty soon. From there, you can hitch along as far as you like, I guess. (Paying for gas is always a plus! ) The more the merrier, right?
I suppose we *could* get to a point where the van's just full, and more riders would be impossible, but we're nowhere near that now. How far would you like to tag along?

Not freeloading, but sharing! GTB and I have discussed having fellow hitch hikers along for the ride, and we both really like the idea. Y'all very welcome. That way it really IS a rolling meet!
Contributions to gas, help map-reading, and local-knowledge are all incredibly welcome.
So come along with us!

Looks like we should be arriving in Georgia on Monday 14th July and spending all day Tuesday 15th, before leaving on Wednesday 16th for North Carolina.
Will we get to see you? And do you still fancy riding with us some of the way?
Ben
