I'm actually - in the grand scheme of things/big picture - relatively new here mysef. I just thought it would be the neighbourly thing, to pop in on a few of the recent arrivals...you know, simply say 'hello', 'welcome aboard', all that (& I suppose, offer you a , & some .)
Make yourself comfortable, feel free to click on my nickname, to visit my space, if you like. And, don't hesitate to go 'poking around', goodness knows I've done my share of that! There should be an ACE (Assistant Community Editor) along fairly soon, to give you an official welcome, as well as a few tips, to make you feel a bit more 'at home'.
I guess, if I can offer a tip of my own, it would be to type 'smileys' into that search window. That'll give you a whole list/selection of emoticons, such as; , , , etc.
Again, welcome aboard, I'm sure you'll like it here (its quite a friendly place, I've found.) Expect to be seeing you around, as it were...au revoir *waves*
Thanks

Hi, thanks for popping around and introducing yourself, i no longer fell like im in this whole new Galaxy by myself, :> Actually i do have a question for you, all night last night i was trying to put smileys and pictures into my personnal space, could not for the life of me figure it out, :> there thats the best smiley i can do for now.
So any tips would be appreciated Thanks See you around.
Thanks
jaz'd(ace & yada yada *sigh* chocolate yada) Posted Jan 20, 2003
Just type smileys, into the search window, under the "click here..." message. That'll take you to a whole selection, ok. Good to hear from you, so promptly.

Lezzetli Posted Jan 20, 2003
Actually i'm not sure if i have to do it a different way as im not a pc user, Just cant seem to make my profile look "smiley" I'm able to find the things i want just not sure how to insert them, what do i type? i tried a few things but hmm it wasnt impressed with that. Sorry to be a pain, but there's no one i can really ask. If i was using a pc then no problem, but really cant work out how to insert them, and im sure its probably really simple :¬> Thanks again

Hello, Lezzetli, I'm the Ace jazz was talking about! Probably the most technically inept one, but friendly; as are most people on here aces or otherwise!
ok, idiots guide to doing smileys; don't get upset if I talk down to you please!
--here's a smiley
1) hover your mouse over the top of it; a little window will appear &
show you what the smiley means
2)DO NOT click your mouse YET
3) copy down on paper the name of the smily
(make sure you use lower case letters & spell it exactly the same)
4) look on your keyboard for the symbols
<
and
>
5) write a reply to this message (anything short! hi will do!)
6)at the end of your message put < then the word (don't leave a space) then >
7)press the preview button before you post the reply. If you've done it right, a smiley will appear as if by & you can then press
post message & go & make a cup of with a !
8) if it hasn't worked, don't , check you've copied it right, correct it on the preview copy & preview again.
9) if it still hasn't worked, say "sod it!" (don't swear stronger than this on here!) & send it anyway!
10) the message will land on my space & we'll take it from there!
Hope this helps!
Terri
great!

Hi Kea, thanks for the useful info, i'm going to check it out now, and see where i can go from here, obviously being new sometimes it can feel like your bugging someone when your constantly asking how? and what do i do! But i understand we all have to start somewhere, just like you did, and maybe some day (not soon i dont think) :> I'll get to grips with this and can show a newbie around myself. Thanks again Kea
All the best Lezzetli
great!

good one Lezzetli
its perfectly acceptable as a newbie to ask lots of questions. i put newbie after my offical name (to alter your name click on the preferences button near the top of the page), and so felt ok about asking lots. its expected when you are new.
also, i've found its ok to jump into conversations. it helps to say a small introduction when you do (like "hi, i'm new"). i've hung out on the ask h2g2 page alot F19585?thread="smiley - ok" title="ok" class="smiley" src="http://www.h2g2.com/h2g2/skins/Alabaster/images/Smilies/f_ok.gif"/> (aces are there to help newcomers)

Hi Lezzetli lol
Well its taken me a few days to figure this thing out too. But Im slowly getting there
If you need any help with anything you know how to get in touch with me? unless you've forgotten my number that is
I'll be adding loads of links to my page for new users, being one myself I know how hard and confusing it can be. But you know me? done plenty of searching the past few days and found out loads of info.
I can either edit your space for you like I suggested until you get the hang of things, or we can go over it on the phone. Whichever is easier for you.
There will be loads of LD stuff on my page too, wich Im sure will interest you.
Ok give me a call soon and I'll go through everything with you, including smileys, pictures, coloured text etc.
Love you loads

Hi, thank you for msg, and the info! I'm not using a pc im using a digibox, so i guess it threw me a bit when i wanted to insert the smileys, otherwise using a pc- i'd have no probs. I think maybe there's just something a bit different i have to do, a friend of mine who's also new to the site has already figured it out, So we can see out of the two who has the brains! :>
She's going to e-mail the info so thanks for the help anyway :>

did you now there is a big digibox thing here on h2g2?
i'll see it i can find some links.
or in the meantime click on the 'who's online' button near the top of your page, and see if loup.dargent is on. if you click on his name you will go to his space and find all the digibox links.
i just checked - he's online now. here's his link U200238
(he'll try and tell you that LD stands for Leisure District, but it really stands for loup dargent - he's starting a secret society )
