Thanks for this informative entry!
I have only ever seen bits of this film, but now I intend to find it somewhere and watch it all the way through.
Cheers!
Rev.

Duck Soup is a funny movie, no doubt, but my favorite Marx Brothers Movie is "A Night At the Opera." It is a classic. The bit in the stateroom left me in stitches, and the silly little bit where Groucho and Chico are working their way through a contract--Priceless!

A Night at the Opera is my second favorite Marx Brothers movie The contract scene is wonderful, as is the destruction of the opera at the climax of the movie. I think Duck Soup is the better movie, though, because there are too many unfortunate musical numbers in Night at the Opera (the whole Cosi, Cosa thing is embarrassing). In Duck Soup, everything contributes towards the comedy. All the musical numbers in Duck Soup are funny (Firefly's description of the rules of his administration always cracks me up: "I will not stand for anything that's crooked or unfair/I'm strictly on the up and up, so everyone beware/If anyone's caught taking graft and I don't get my share/we'll stand them up against the wall and pop goes the weasel"), and there's no filler.
