The Beiderbecke Affair

Number Six

I've just taken delivery this morning of a 4-CD box set of one of the finest television series known to man, and have happily spent most of the evening watching the first three episodes.

The upshot is that I feel pretty nice about myself, have a strong urge to behave like James Bolam, and have remembered what Master B must have been talking about when he mentioned the Huddersfield/Halifax Beiderbecke Connection.

smiley - cheers

Now, why don't they make telly like this any more? I suppose there's more money in dross like Pap Idol...

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

The Beiderbecke Affair - for some reason I never watched it... well, I saw a few episodes. Odd really, since it had Barbara Flynn in it smiley - bigeyes

Dinnerlady [The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom]William Blake. Top lad:)

I remember being really excited about watching it when I was a kid, as the school the main characters taught at in the series was filmed at Abbey Grange, which was down the road from my school, Lawnswood, in Leeds, and for some reason I thought I'd see people I knew in each episode.

As Number Six knows, the books are even better than the original series. If you ever get your chance to get your hands on them, do so. They are, sadly, out of print right now. smiley - sadface

One of the many things that I owe my parents for is making me watch the videos. I may have to procure the DVD. Big Al and Little Norm are great? What's the policeman's name again?

I don't think I've ever heard of this show. When was it on the telly?

Err, late 80s early 90s GD. Although it's been repeated since. There's a sequel, the Beiderbecke Connection. It really is a cracker.

Actually, it was a trilogy, with the Beiderbecke Tapes occupying the middle position.
