Thirteenth of July. Morning.
My grandmother has just woken me up. 
But I don't mind. Because today I'm going to meet my first hootooers. Creachy and Serephina.
I dress hurriedly and cautiously sniff my hair, hoping that the large tub of popcorn tipped over it has not left a scent. It hasn't.
I don my 'fanny' bag and knee compressing rucksack. And panic because it's far too late to get into Reading before my train arrives.
Bugger.
My exasperated grandma rings up and joy of joys the train to Redhill goes through the station outside her house.
Thankgod.
Waved off on the train and sit and listen to the first six tracks of each of my CD's. Frequent drops have incapacited the movement of the reader goddamit.
A million things rush through my mind. After tapping my ear a few times I managed to get the little buggers out and gain my train trance state. Unfortunately some bastard sits opposite me meaning I have to look to the left, or right, which made things harder.
I changed at Redhill in the normal refuse to look at the screens that display time and bully some unfortunate worker to tell me fashion.
My phone beeps and vibrates.
The other passengers give me a dirty look.
Serephina's going to be a bit late and she has her son with her.
I get off the train and gape in awe at the wonder that is east croydon. Train tracks run through the rail and man in a turban is asking one tall thin policeman and one short fat policeman for directions.
Several things rush through my mind, and this time they're thoughts rather than those unpleasant insects I picked up off some bananas.
What do they look like? Will we get on? Are they insane homicidal freaks, and if not, will we still have anything in common?
I look around for a woman with red hair trailing a kid, and suddenly there she is! A macdonalds, a letch and several never-to-be-repeated secrets later and we meet up with Creachy.
