hello everybody and a happy new year
I'm new and a wee bit confused as to how this site really works. I've started writing short stories and cannot understand what " Finding your voice," is. Can anyone help?

'Allo change_alife, welcome to h2g2. One of our Aces (a meeter and greeter) will pop by your space with a proper hello, and a few pointers around the site, in a bit.
Finding your voice? The only way to find it is to write, write and write some more. I'd have said that you've found your voice when you spend more time thinking about what to say rather than how to say it.
If you were to look around h2g2 you'll find many people who have found their 'internet' voice (though many might not realise it), which could be a humorous slant, a serious slant, a beleaguered slant, or a slanty mish-mash of many slants.
Ahem.
A short-story voice works pretty much along the same lines: you find that things are flowing and seem right.
That might all be complete nonsense!

A few useful links for you, chinge.
<./>RF5</.>, the Alternative Writing Workshop, is h2g2's place for creative writers to improve their craft and discuss creative writing. Entries in the Alternative Writing Workshop which are deemed to be of high quality are put on the h2g2 front page via the <./>UnderGuide</.>, and you can also submit them for publication in <./>ThePost</.>.

The way it works for me? At my job I compose events in my head that sometimes just take off on their own and soon a story writes itself, almost!
Try imagining some mistake you would have to weasel out of by inventing a lie!
Key: Complain about this post
