Hi Heather,
I'm a newbie too,so I'm not in any real position to tell you too much.I suppose the point is what you can add to the sum of knowledge here at this site ;be it from your hobbies ,work or just your point of view.
Question, why the cast of your head? Newsreader publicity? As an actor I had a life sized cardboard cut out of myself in certain supermarkets....
So welcome and look forward to your posts.

Ah.. good, okey dokey. I am new too and got into this h2g2 thingy after reading Salmon of Doubt. I think that I have some work to do on my introduction space or whatever it is.
Smashing book but I have not finished it yet ...

Well, I quess this is the place for new people who have read Salmon of Doubt, to find each other. That's good, I was getting lonely and wanted to say something. So, Something!

Yes, thank you. I think I'm getting the hang of it. Salmon of Doubt is great, it has a longer version of Young Zaphod Plays it Safe, which makes much more sense than the one in the Hitchhiker's Guide, if that makes any sense. But the last story make no sense at all, and I don't recommend (sp?)it.

I hear that they are thinking of make a film of the Hitchhiker's Guide,
I dont think they will get all the good bits into one film, but we will just have to wait and see

Of course it doesn't make sense-- it was a work in progress, and the editor had to cobble together several different versions, some of which contradicted each other.

That's true - and we're led to believe that being Douglas Adams' editor wasn't exactly stress-free when he was around to finish his work!
Douglas' approach to deadlines and my own are indeed not dissimilar.

I know that Adams didn't get to finish it, but it's too bad. I wish someone could, cause it would be fun to see what it was supposed to end like.

I agree.... although not finished the tributes and insights to DNA and sadly his short life were worth every penny.

I am making my way through that book. But I am concerned. I was waiting for the third Dirk Gently novel for 10 years above any other sequel of anything and I want to know if I will be devastated reading it uncompleted or whether it is worth it? I have not got to that section of the book yet.
